To all on this board i can say from one of the players ..this was not a mutual agreement..both players are devestated. The team knows it ..both players broke no rules of school .team .or classroom.there wasnt a discipline problem .or a sign of disrespect to the coaches.....
Also from Chris Elsberry's CT POST story:
Especially playing without Grennan and Davis. "We actually played for them, knowing they're not here," Barrow said. "We were two men down but it didn't affect our play."
At this early part of the situation something just doesn't sound right with all these conflicting stories. Hopefully this is just not a way to open up scholarships at the expense of two Fairfield University student-athletes.
I wonder if the team is thinking that this is unfair and an unnecessary distraction late into the season or even who might be next?
Hopefully the MIRROR staff is interested enough to try to find out what is really happening with two of their fellow students and the coaching staff?
Thanks JoeStag for the background information on the Han situation.
So, when you wrote that this current situation with Davis and Grennan reminds you of the Han situation --- am I correct in inferring that Davis and Grennan have been badmouthing the other players on the team as Han did to Jamaal Turner, among others?
As you can tell, I was a big fan of Jamal. He came from a rough neighborhood of Boston. You might recall that he lost his younger brother due to mistaken identity and gun violence. It was a big story here in Boston at the time. What was so impressive was watching the young man handle the situation with grace and strength as he served as the unofficial spokesperson for the family to the media. I could not help but root for Jamal and was sad to see him leave.
"They need time to get their focus and commitment right," Johnson said. "It's nothing more or less than that. It's certainly not a rash (decision). I don't want to detail all the stuff. It's internal but I'll say that they're not with us.
"I'm going to give them the time that they need to figure out their focus and commitment to what we're doing here in trying to win games. And then we'll go from there."
It will be interesting to see what SJ really means by "give them the time they need" and "And then we'll go from there" and how it translates into both players' futures especially in the 7 remaining MAAC games and the PIG in Springfield.
Will Grennan and Davis be back in the line up and playing again?
While I cannot say with certainty, I've heard that Grennan was very fond of the college lifestyle... the lifestyle outside of class and athletics of course... I cant speak to Davis, I think its a shame to lose such an athletic and young player though, he never got a chance to prove himself.
If J West is right, then Sydney is a sleaze ball. Hope he is right. Let's let the lack of communication blow up in his face...
This is the saddest comment on this message board. I don't know what Sydney Johnson has done to you personally but you'll have to let go one day. I hope Sydney is making the right call and doing what is best for these specific players and the program. To root against your own team and to root for that coach to be a "sleaze ball" is beyond me. If Sydney can't get the job done here he'll be held responsible. Until that point I'm rooting for success on and off the court.

Its interesting that people are bringing up the Han situation. There are a lot of similarities between the situation with Han and the Grennan/Davis matter. First, both situations occurred at Fairfield University. Secondly,,,,,, secondly......there is nothing else similar about the two situations.
This us what I got from Parent of players who were close to the situation.
- Han's attitude was tough on players, when he felt the players could not play the game the right way, or weren't good enough - He was particularly tough on Jamal Turner (disrespectull) - At Manhattan game, Turner said dis-repectthings to Han during the game - After game, Han went ape-shit on Turner - Coaches could not control Han. Han was yelling outside the locker room in Manhattan Field House - Han was disrespecting the coaches - Cooley ws furiace, and was outside, so he would not blow up - Han was furious that coaches did not back him up - Han was removed from the team - They asked Han to Apologize, he did not,
I was a big fan of Jon Han, and think he was a great basketball player. That said, I have heard many renditions of the Han situation, and sadly, I felt it was necessary to support this decision to dismiss Jon from the team. I had a lot of respect for Ed Cooley, and 100% confidence that he would not have taken an action so severe unless it was completely necessary. I think Joe Stag is being kind to the memory of Jon Han in his rendering of the above facts. I don't want to repeat heresy, but I think you have to stretch imagination of what "going ape-shit" means and that this "action" was not limited to Jamal Turner.
I will always love Jon Han's abilities and competitiveness and I wish him and all past Fairfield players nothing but the best. But I have heard nothing to make me feel it is anything but a complete stretch to compare the situations with Han and Grennan.
Han was riding Peanut hard too. And I believe this was just before Anthony had his near death situation during a game and we soon realized that he had been playing through the symptoms for several weeks.

Never rooted for him to be a sleaze ball, if he is making stuff up about "lack of focus" then he absolutely is. His lack of transparency of what he does allows for people to doubt him. Start being more upfront and then we can understand him more. Furthermore, I'm sick of what Sydney has done to the BRAND of Stag basketball. He's killing it. I'd say HE needs to focus more on his offensive schemes that he provides his players with. They look lost every game. That's on him. Glad you are happy with him...

I can't say I'm happy at 5-19 but I believe he will/should get one more year to turn things around. I'm curious as to what the BRAND of Fairfield basketball was before Sydney Johnson and how he has changed it. We've been complaining about offense forever, we haven't won the MAAC Tournament in 16 years and have won the regular season title once, and we continue to be a relative unknown to most basketball fans in our own state. Other than not having Derek Needham or Ed's personality around, I don't see how our BRAND has changed. The record is finally catching up to the disappointment of the program.
3 years ago, the program was on the up and up. Where is it today? Another " rebuilding" year for next year to look forward to. The local media doesn't even give their scores, they have become as irrelevant as Sacred Heart basketball. That's a disgrace. Furthermore, this coach's(I use that term loosely) salary is way too much for these results...
