Story confirms part of the schedule. 7 games as expected. Either the Tournament (@duke and 2-3 Home games) or individual games. I would prefer individual games, as I don't want to play Duke early in the season.
On the schedule front, along with the 20-game MAAC slate, the Stags will host Belmont, Loyola (Md.) and Bucknell at the Webster Bank Arena, along with playing at Albany and at Northeastern. Fairfield will play Central Connecticut in the Connecticut 6 Classic at Quinnipiac's TD Bank Arena.
Johnson said that Fairfield is also speaking with Sacred Heart University about renewing that series....
"Justin Jenkins and Lincoln Davis have been granted their request for a transfer release from Fairfield University," Johnson said in an e-mail message to Hearst Connecticut Media...
Last season, in addition to the 10 MAAC home games, the Stags in the OOC played Hartford (1,309), Holy Cross (1,052) and Northeastern (1,106) at the WBA and none of these games drew very well other than the CT6 game with SHU (5,060) and the Univ. of Bridgeport (1,984) exhibition game . Starting the season at (1-8) didn't help. However, I doubt that Belmont, Loyola and Bucknell will draw all that much better unless to their local alumni. Getting SHU back on the schedule, despite declining attendance at the WBA, will at least get a few more fans to Bridgeport. I would also like to see Fordham back on the schedule.
No mention by Chris Elsberry about Sean Grennan or his status with the team and the University, just Jenkins and Davis?
Tyler is clearly a minimum of 6'2, maybe even 6'3. And he has exremely long arms for his height (large wingspan). He is on the light side as far as weight is concerned however. Has to bulk up considerably by next fall. I think he will. I believe that being a coaches son suggests that he is a hard worker who will be given good advice as to what has to be done to get ready for college ball.

Story said they are talking to SHU regarding game. Not confirmed as definite yet. I hope it happens (for a good chance at a win plus high attendance). Conn. 6, I am glad it will be Central Conn. and NOT Yale who we have yet to play in this tournament. Reason being the Bulldogs will have pretty much everyone back from a team that lost in the CIT finals and figures to maybe have a chance to give Harvard a scare in the Ivy League next season.

JoeStag --- Please explain what the phrase --- Either the Tournament(@duke and 2-3 Home games) or individual games. ---- means. I did not see any mention in the CT Post article about us possibly being in a tournament. If you're just guessing about what our remaining OOC games might be, what made you guess the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. Also, as Nashville has already pointed out -- the article only mentions talks are ongoing with SHU so it seems premature to list them as a home game already.
If you are privy to some information that the rest of us don't have, and we are considering the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic ---this link lists those teams which have already committed to the tournament. It's showing 5-7 visitors still to be named with Louisiana Tech hosting one of the subregionals. Didn't we think we were going to host some games 2 years ago as part of the preseason NIT and instead Lehigh wound as a subregional site with us playing Lehigh and Fordham on the Lehigh campus; so it seems like these tournaments don't always work out the way we originally think they are going to.
We are tentatively part of the Coaches vs Cancer, probably opening at Duke. Could be the day following the CT-6 game. The semi-finalists are set with Duke, Temple, Stanford and UNLV at the Barclays, even if they lose their opening round game. We would not play at Barclay's We are tentatively scheduled as a potential SubHost for 3 games at WBA as part of this Tourney. This is a similar concept as last year when we played Holy Cross and Hartford at WBA, but we would play 3 games. Its also like the Lehigh thing 2 years ago. Agree, these things sometimes do not work out, that's why its still tentative. This info comes from a reliable source. Check out last year's SubHost games and teams in link below:
Seems like a strange way to start a season when most everyone is thinking major improvement in the won-loss record is necessary for Sydney to keep his job. Two games in two days with the 2nd day being a road game at Duke.
But like you wrote, it's still all tentative at this point.
If it does come to pass, that would make our 3 road games for next year Albany, Duke, and Northeastern. Albany made the NCAAs this year, Duke will probably be top 10 preseason next year with a highly regarded recruiting class coming in, and as Pomeroy has pointed out Bill Coen is the best in-game coach during the last minute of a game (although we did beat Northeastern this year).
...Anyway, we can apply the method used above to just the final minute and determine which programs have performed the best in late-game situations over the past five seasons. 1 Northeastern +7.2 2 Indiana St. +7.0 3 San Francisco +6.8 4 Richmond +6.8 5 Baylor +6.6 6 Temple +6.0 7 Colorado +5.9 8 New Mexico +5.8 9 Arizona +5.7 10 Jacksonville +5.7
Kudos to longtime Northeastern head coach Bill Coen. Keep in mind that this method is beholden to the accuracy of the win probability, such as it is, and also that teams that constantly take big leads into the final minute aren’t going to be in position to rank highly on this list...
As far as SHU game goes, I hear that Bobby Valentine likes the idea of playing the game at WBA, so that is a major step in the right direction. They just have to work out the Financials. The SHU Prez wants more money, not tickets. So that type of negotiation has to be approved by both Prez’s. After a few beers, I suggested to throw them an extra $5,000 to $10,000. Of course that’s not my money. But, I feel it’s a great deal if we get a home game every year. So it’s not a done deal, but at least we are not negotiating playing this game at he Pitt center. I also recommended that we have the Fairfield Girls play at the Pitt Center

Although much newer (1997), their Pitt Center (2,062) seats less than Alumni Hall (2,479) but SHU drew only 106 fans last year whereas Joe Frager's team averaged 538 fans. The WBA is far too large a facility for this game and the Pitt Center and AH are the perfect size. IMO, include the Stag Women in any Fairfield-SHU series agreement between GD and Valentine and alternate those games between AH and the Pitt Center. Playing the Battle for Fairfield "rivalry" game on both campuses would be good for the atmosphere, good for the students, good for the alumni and good for both schools plus FREE parking.
Here's Sydney's email message again: "Justin Jenkins and Lincoln Davis have been granted their request for a transfer release from Fairfield University," Johnson said in an e-mail message to Hearst Connecticut Media. "Each of them has the opportunity to pursue their undergraduate degree and playing career at any non-MAAC institution."
Say what you want to about Sydney, but at least he's learned not to permit someone to transfer to another MAAC school. I like to think of ....at any non-MAAC institution ----- as the Jamel Fields phrase in the email message.
Does anyone happen to know why we allowed Fields to transfer to St. Peter's in the first place? Prohibiting a player from transferring to another school in the same conference as the one he's transferring from is fairly standard at most D1 schools.
Terence Smith from Tennessee Martin is listed as having a hometown of Russellville, Alabama. I would think the odds are much higher of us being able to attract an immediately eligible transfer from the tristate area than from someone who grew up in Alabama and went to college in Tennessee.
