Photo of some of the newcomers. With the bleachers behind the players, one can do some extrapolating of heights. Assuming each Bleacher is a 5 inches, Sydney is 6-4 and Steve Smith is 6-7 1/2:
- Degnan looks like a true 6-8, and very good size body - Nelson looks to 6-3 1/2 - Jared Harper or Threatt about 5-10 (looks more like Harper, but has the height of Threatt) - Kirkland about 6-7 1/2 (that's taller than I thought)
I stopped by the Camp last week. Got a look at Degnan and Nelson. Degnan is a big dude! I spoke with Coach Wheeler briefly, and I asked him who of the newcomers impressed him the most. He said Degnan.

Thats great News on Degnan. And while I do feel that the #1 priority is that we find "The Man" at 2G, the #2 Priority has to be PF. The PF position gave us very little last year. Degnan is the most skilled, and the most well-rounded player of all the competitors. However, the competion has a lot of experience and specific strengths..... Kirkland (Physical Inside player), Coleman (Length), and Malcolm (Shot Blocking, Intimidation).
It was mentioned at the Roundtable that Amadou is working on expanding his range to 15 feet. If he does that, that could pave the way to have Amadou play at the PF and Malcolm at Center.
IMO, we need a Big Man that can Pass, Shoot and handle. I think that points to Degnan. Will we see a Nero type of start from Degnan?
Some Photos from Twitter suggest that both of our 5-10 Newcomers can Dunk. Demarcus Threatt can throw it down with 2 hands, While Jerome Segura prefers the 1-hand Jam.

Not a tweet, but some quotes from Demarcus Threatt's HS Coach from Alabama. Like most other reports, Threatt is much more than just a JUCO scorer. I expect him to play a major role this year.
DeMarcus scored over 750 career points while shooting over 51-percent from the field and 38-percent from the arc. He averaged over three rebounds per game from the point guard position while dishing out almost 150 assists and collecting 70 steals. He finished second team All-Region. He averaged 21 points per game and was ranked 23rd in the country in scoring.
“DeMarcus was my first recruit when I was hired at Snead State,” said Coach Jay Welborn. “He is everything that I hope a player will become. I never worried about him in the classroom as that was always his focus. He became not only one of the best players in the league but also one of the best student athletes.”
Threatt also received offers from the University of South Alabama and a host of NCAA Division II schools.
“He represented our institution and our team in an extremely classy manner through his team within our program. He is going to be a major success in everything he does because of his work ethic. I’m extremely proud of him and the man he has become. He’s going to be incredibly difficult to replace,” said Coach Welborn.
Our other Juco Mike Kirkland..... hanging out at the Ball field. He should also step in and play right away, except he has more competition...... Degnan, Malcolm, Coleman
I would say he looks like he has the potential to give us at least 1 game with stats of ...... 20pts and 20rebs. In his highlight video, the announcer said he was Mr Energy. As a JUCO, I am expecting immediate contribution from him.
Martin Bahar is on the Summer Camp tour for recruits. July is the month for evaluations and making offers to those we want to come for a Visit to Fairfield. Hopefully, August/September will be the months we get those visits.
Martin Bahar @mshonebahar · Jul 20 Back from Georgia...whole lotta talent down in the "Peach State" this past weekend! Last July stop: Vegas!

Martin is the guy who is most omnipresent on our staff (partially I guess because he tweets), but I would have to think the other coaches are also out there doing their job. Indeed in the last 16 days according to Verbal Commits, the Stags have made offers to no less than 23 high school players. So certainly this does open the door for a lot of visits in a month or so.
