Chillin' 4 Charity added another name to its roster of bone-chilling participants when Fairfield University Head Men's Basketball Coach Sydney Johnson sat patiently while two of his players dumped ice-cold water on him, completing a challenge set forth by his colleague, Stags Women's Basketball Head Coach Joe Frager a few weeks ago.
The Chilln' 4 Charity is tied into the Kay Yow Fund which raises money and awareness for breast cancer research. Frager took the dip in late June at which time he dropped the gauntlet for his counterpart. Johnson wasted little time in making his own challenge, inviting Georgetown University Head Coach John Thompson III to take the challenge and surrender to the icy water.
Former Stag great Art Kenney does the IceBucket Challenge with the help of Sydney Johnson
Former Fairfield great Art “The Great Red” Kenney partaking in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge with some help from Coach Sydney Johnson. Art was a standout at Fairfield who then had an amazing 3 seasons with Olimpia Milano in Italy, the same team Coach Johnson played for professionally. With Olimpia Milano, Kenney averaged 14.3 points per game and 11.8 rebounds per game, and was named the league’s 1971 Best Forward, and 1972 Best Foreign Player. He won 1 Italian Championship, and 2 European Cups! Go Stags!

Art is a former Stag who still cares deeply about the program. He can be seen during the winter at a few game, particularly those around the NYC area such as Manhattan, Iona and St. Peter's. The funny thing is although he must be in his mid 60s now, he really looks much younger than that, and in fact certainly appears to be in good enough shape to go out on the court and show some of the guys how to play the game. BTW, if you have never met him, he is very friendly and approachable and would love to talk about the team.
