Our game against Northeastern should give us a good indication of the improvement of our team (if any) from the secret scrimmage, since I believe someone posted that we "lost" our secret scrimmage at BU this year.
Holy Cross 58 Harvard 57 --- instantly propels Holy Cross into the discussion of which Jesuit men's basketball team in New England is the best this year.
So Canisius beats Vermont in Buffalo 64-60 but Siena loses to Vermont for the 5th straight year. Yet Siena is generally considered a top tier MAAC team this year and Canisius was considered bottom tier in preseason predictions. Season is only 4 days old and I'm already starting to doubt some of those preseason predictions for the MAAC that I saw.
From the Times-Union article on the Siena-Vermont game: ...the University of Vermont, which shot a remarkable 68.4 percent from the field in an 84-76 victory over Siena ... Siena was outscored 42-16 in the paint.
Most of the pre season predictions rely too heavily on what the teams did last year. And they also tend to keep the Tier ranges the same each year .... Like top 3 or Top 4. IMO, the tiers to start the season are
Tier 1- Iona Tier 2 - all the rest Tier 3 - Niagara (I am waffling on putting Canisius here, but they beat Vermont)
There is not a significant difference between teams 2 thru 10 at the moment, but tiers do change as the season goes on. But to get ones panties wet because one team is rated 3 or 4 is not worth it. If they are In a different tier then that is significant. And of course final seedings is very important.
We are pretty evenly matched with SD. Their guards struggle from the outside and they have no post presence. Its a team we really should beat if our front court continues its strong play. Their 3 point specialist has some really funky leg action on his shots.
They play 3 guards a majority of the time. Joe Stag will be excited ...could be a 3 guard weekend.

Exactly. Although Iona is AJ English, Laury, and a host of athletic compliments. Beatable, but if both of those guys are firing on all cylnders on a given night, they are going to be very tough for ANY team to beat.

Looks like the foot print of a game plan for Sydney when we play Siena. I will take all bets now that we will launch more 3's than 2 point attempts against Siena. If we are to have any hope of being in the top half, Sydney is going to need to pay attention and put forth better game plans this year.
Rider beats Penn by 16....... As expected Penn is not good
Canisius beats Lehigh by 12...... I am surprised that Canisus is 2-0, but I guess I should not be as they played 2 teams that are in a rebuilding cycle
Quinnipiac and Lasalle are tied with 10 to go.... Can MAAC finally get a win vs an A-10 team

Nope, LaSalle by 2. The Q. works so much on rebounding. Tonight they had a +24 advantage in that area of the game. Unbelievable that they lost! BTW another result of interest. Northeastern defeats Florida State, I believe on the Seminole's court. Didn't FS defeat Manhattan rather easily this past weekend? Tough stretch of games coming up considering we play the Huskies in the next game after the 3 in a row this weekend, 2 of which appear to be against teams that would be upper tier MAAC.
Wow, Northeastern is looking really good this year. While we are only going to play 1 great team(Duke), we are going to play a lot of very good teams in OOC..... teams that are on a similar level to Iona. That will be good preparation for the MAAC season/record..... maybe not so good for the OOC record. Wofford game does have a nice twist. I would have liked to have us play the 3 CvsC games in easy to hard order, but we are actually playing the teams in Harder to weaker order.
Quinnipiac rebounds the hell out of the basketball. And while Rebounding is a very important aspect of the game, "Rebounding Statistics" can sometimes be a very misleading statistic. Rebounding numbers contain FT misses, balls that just fall into someones hands, and a player who just continually misses shots and gets his own rebound ..... sometimes 5 times in one possession. The rebounds that matter are the 50-50 looseballs and the Oboard putbacks....... which certainly Quinnipiac is very good at.

Another foe who we will face shortly looks a lot tougher than what they appeared to be as the season started. Bucknell played at Villanova tonight and got the game into the final minute tied before the Wildcats were able to score the last 7 points or so to put the game away. It was scary close to upsetting a highly ranked team. They had a junior forward go off for something like 34 points. We play them a couple of days after traveling to Northeastern I believe. Oh BTW the MAAC season has officially begun. And guess who is in first place? Niagara, as they traveled to St. Peter's and won by a point. No Dezi Washington in box score. Injured?

Desi Washington is injured and has not played in their last 3 games. We know first hand how important he is to that team.
Bucknell is another school on our schedule that is one of the top teams in their league, and would probably be a top team in the MAAC.... just below Iona. The 34 points was scored by junior Chis Hass who is an outstanding 6-5, 185 shooter. He scared us last year. I think he plays the 3.
