With most people probably saying Iona is #1, the #2 spot is really a toss-up. I don't think I have ever seen this type of parity from #2 thru #10 in the MAAC or any league. The MAAC is usually one of the most competitive leagues year in and year out
My hope is that it would be Fairfield, but looking at the returning Rosters and results, I would say either Siena or St Peters. They both have good Balance inside and outside and they have experienced players. Siena has beaten St Bonnies and St Peters has beat Rutgers as far as impressive wins. Plus both St Peters and Siena have been really hurt by injuries to Al-MAAC players (Desi, Bispring and now Long). I would say we need to show we can beat a MAAC team that has Strong/Experienced guard play before I can say we are near the top of the MAAC.

I'd vote in this poll if I thought there was an answer. It is Iona and then everyone else in my opinion. I don't think there will be an answer until February.

I would agree. I started the poll, and really had to think hard to come up of who might be #2...... and I am not confident at all with that selection. And the season is 6 weeks old.
I think Niagara might be #11, but who knows. If Marist does not get healthy, they are definitely #11. If heathy they could be #2. I do like Rider too, but Rider might be as good as most Rider teams..... and that might be good enough to put them in 2nd. I also like the way we have been playing. Beating both Manhattan and QU is a statement...... and a huge confidence builder for the team. Its not just that we won.... its the way we won. We still have a lot to prove.
Just 3 OOC games left and the Stags resume the MAAC Schedule in January. Those 5 games in the first two weeks of January will give a much clearer picture of where the Stags (2-0) are in the MAAC.
Fri, Jan 02 Siena * at the Webster Bank Arena at 7:00 PM on ESPN3/SNY Mon, Jan 05 Rider * at the Webster Bank Arena at 7:00 PM on ESPN3 Sun, Jan 11 Siena * at Albany, N.Y. at 2:00 PM Tue, Jan 13 Iona * at New Rochelle, N.Y. at 7:00 PM Fri, Jan 16 Marist * at the Webster Bank Arena at 7:00 PM on ESPN3/SNY
Stags are currently (2-0) in the MAAC. Any guess at what the MAAC record will be on January 16 after the Marist game? A third of the MAAC Regular Season will be finished that weekend. Will the Stags be (7-0) or (2-5) or something in between?

Very interesting Poll JS. Like you I had to think long and hard about who to vote for. Going into the season I thought it was:
1) Iona 2) Siena 3)St. Peters 4) Rider
However, things have not played out as expected in the early season. I decided to go with SPC in the poll. So far I have not been impressed with Siena at all. They will get better when Bisping returns but I'm no longer certain they are the second place team. Even though I picked SPC for Second they too are not as strong with Washington being out. I feel right now Monmouth and Rider are playing as well as anyone. And while we were not playing well, we did play well in our last two games. So it should be interesting and I agree with the general point of the poll. Anyone could finish second there is no clear number 2 in the conference.
Stumbled upon some mathematical calculation by John Pudner of an all-MAAC team after the first month of the season.
MAAC PG 5 A.J. English Iona MAAC SF 33 Rob Poole Siena MAAC PF 1 Isaiah Williams Iona MAAC PF 11 Ramone Snowden Niagara MAAC C 21 Marvin Dominique Saint Peter’s
...players are evaluated based on how many points they create for their team above a good low-major player...
As usual with these mathematical calculations, I get lost in trying to understand how they come up with their results. Additionally, it seems odd to me that the MAAC is being labelled low-major while the Ivy League gets considered mid-major.
In Pudner's nycbuckets article, he has Iona as the best low-major team, Belmont 13th, Siena 14th and Monmouth 18th. However, those rankings were based on results where Bisping and Long played for Siena and Bradshaw was playing for Belmont.
And for those who totally understand the valueadd concept, you'll easily understand how Amadou is our highest rated player at 107th in the low major category which is 67 places ahead of Marcus.
Iona at George Mason - Saturday, December 20 at 7:00 pm on NBCSN The Iona Gaels (6-3) look for a third-straight win when they visit the George Mason Patriots (2-6) in a non-conference matchup.
