I think we will be looking at 5th Year Seniors, as they would be immediately eligible. These type of players do not even declare that they are interested in transfer until their teams are eliminated, and many wait until they graduate in May. Its my understanding that these type of players require different type of recruiting methods, as they are free agents, and not many NCAA rules govern these type of transfers. Meaning they can come to Fairfield for a week or 2, play with the team, to see if there is a fit from Player and Team perspective.
I would think we would also look at International players that are immediately available and JUCO's. I don't know which HS players are immediate impact.
As previously posted, Branden Aughburns is a big FF offered some time ago, as did Iona, Rider, Canisius, and others. Juco guard Mike Rodriguez played with Tyler Nelson in AAU and would be a great get. A player whom FF recruited a couple of years ago, but ended up at Missouri, Shane Rector, is out there. Left Missouri, played this past year at Miami Dade, and averaged almost 20 per game. Likely looking to go higher, but you never know. He's a 2 who can play the point, but is obviously a scorer. If you'd like to call that a dream list, I'd have to agree.

The issue with the 5th year seniors is that they will be looking to earn a masters degree during that one year. If we are serious about attracting this type of player than something is going to have happen on the academic side such as a one year masters in business degree or communications degree.

After the past two seasons, I believe Sydney is far more interested in a quick fix than the long term future of the program. Next year, SJ's first recruiting class will be seniors --- if he can't produce significant results after 4 years of recruiting and coaching then even FVA and GD won't buy any excuses Sydney comes up with.

Don't underestimate FVA. If he retains Sydney after the last two years anything is possible. He might consider 8 wins next season progress.
That is not the way to build a team for the future, but rather a quick fix and they're gone....
This is why he needs to be let go this season. He will be short term focused. And he will make decisions on 7 scholarship next year effecting the program for the foreseeable future.
Sydney should be more short-term focused. Every year there are holes to fix, and teams get those type of players..... and they are critical to the teams success. We have not recruited any 5th year seniors, the only player that was close to that was Rakim Sanders.

It's somewhat amazing to me that Sydney wasn't short term focused at the conclusion of the '13-'14 season. I'd think after setting a program record for losses in a year that he would want to fix the holes that were obvious in that roster.

It seems like if they are going to retain Sydney they would need to make a public showing of support and say they believe in him and he's here to stay through 2019. That would be the only sensible way to keep him and allow him to recruit program changers. Otherwise why bring him back as a lame duck coach? If they are serious about Sydney, it seems like that very well may be plausible.

He was short term focused by getting 2 JUCO's, but we also brought in 3 HS players. I felt that was an appropriate mix under the circumstances. This year, I feel that we need to bring in 2 Immediately eligible Transfers or JUCOs, and 2 HS players...... Nolan being one of them..

To me, Sydney has coached his way into his current situation. I think the Jesuit fathers would likely remove FVA from his Presidency if he allowed a public showing of support for Sydney with the statement that Sydney is going to remain as head coach through 2019 regardless of the team's play next season.

One of those JUCO's has already transferred out and I don't know of anyone who considers Kirkland to be a program changer type of player. Sure hope Sydney's short term focused results are better this offseason than last offseason.
So Joe, you seem to indicate in your post that there will be a total of 4 scholarships available, is that correct. Does that mean that Rose and Chappell are leaving in addition to Threatt and Stevie J? You know I've been pushing all along to get Nolan to start playing right away next season.
