Rumors are this recruit may be headed to Fairfield. Sydney seems to be scouring the globe chasing prospects in the UK, Texas and now South Dakota. Why we are looking at a small forward I have no idea, but here's what's I was able to glean from the UnderTheRadar recruiting site......
Recruiting Profile: ★★★★ Player: Skylar King
Player: King, Skylar
Hometown: Eagle Butte, South Dakota
Position: Forward
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 170 lbs
Considering: University of South Dakota, Fairfield, Appalachian State
Offers: Fairfield. 2015 Recruit, Expected to Qualify
Favorite Food: Whopper Double Cheese burger with Bacon and no mayo
Skylar King is an undersized forward who hasn’t gotten a lot of Division I attention. He is the first player ever from South Dakota to be named to named a Burger King All-American. He is considered to be one of South Dakota’s top 5 recruits, but due to the nature of the competition he has faced its hard to predict how his skills will translate at the division 1 level. He is being actively courted by a handful of schools including Fairfield and Appalachian State.
Some Scouts have stated that Sklyar resembles a young Ron Artest, and its not hard to see why these comparisons are being made. Other than the fact that King is 7 inches shorter than Artest; and that Artest is Black and King white, if you passed them on the street, you’d be hard pressed to tell the two apart. Growing up both players owned a pair of red sneakers. Among the other amazing similarities between Artist and King is that both players are right handed. Additionally each player has scored 25 or more points in a game except for King.
Skylar is one of the most quotable young men you will find entering the college game today. When asked if he had a favorite school at this point in the recruiting process, King said, “Not really.” Commenting on the coaches who have been recruiting him, King stated, “I like coach Clueless at Iona.” When asked about Fairfield Coach Sydney Johnson, King quipped, “I think he kind of looks like Kermit the Frog.” When commenting on his high energy, King touted, “One of the main reasons I play with so much energy is I take a 2 hour nap from 1 to 4 each day.” When asked about the possibility of playing at a somewhat empty Arena at Harbor Yard King stated, "I think the lower attendance numbers at Fairfield’s games might be attributed to fewer people going to the games."
Here are some other quotes from my recent interview with King:
“The only reason we are 0-7 is that we’ve lost our first seven games.”
“I like Fairfield, but I understand the school may be academically challenging. The only way you'll see 5 A's on my report card is if I enroll at Appalachian State.”
“This year our team instituted a run and shoot offense. Next year we want to implement a run and score offense.”
“Offensively I'm a good match for Fairfield. I don't score a lot of points.”
“The day I met my coach, I asked him if I could borrow $200. He said that I was being a little forward, and I’ve played that position ever since.”
"Well, if they hadn't scored that last basket, I think the score might have been different; I’m not sure, I'm not a math major."
"Philosophically, I connect with Coach Johnson's belief that basketball requires focusing on the three P's. Positioning, Passing. and Defense."
I'd be surprised if we don't see Skylar at Harbor Yard sometime next season. Have a great day everyone ......
