Been busy most of the summer and may have missed it.
What type of field is being built on the corner of Barlow and Round Hill? Practice field? Rugby?
Not totally sure but I believe it is a new modern day turf field for multiple purposes including serving as a place to practice for the Prep football team.
That is what I was referring to in my last post - an astro turf field. I think someone donated it. It will help Prep and the U since field capacity is really constrained.
Our students’ lives outside the classroom matter to us because their wellbeing is the foundation for a rewarding life & an important part of Fairfield’s future legacy. The moment you step inside, you will know this is a new and special place. Whether you are an occasional or passionate athlete, the renovated Fairfield RecPlex will have what our students are looking for in a modern, spacious setting. Our students’ lives outside the classroom matter to us because their wellbeing is the foundation for a rewarding life and an important part of Fairfield’s future legacy. From an indoor track and large cardio training suite to ample rooms for classes, meeting spaces and more, this will be a great place for students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends.
From the very beginning, what has distinguished Jesuit education has been the understanding that a true education means care for the whole person. An investment in the Leslie C. Quick, Jr. Recreation Complex renovation is critical to the overall development of our students and for future recruits.
We’ve made great strides. Thanks to the initial generosity of a group of alumni, parents and friends, we have raised nearly $17 million to transform the RecPlex. The renovation requires an additional $5 million to get to the finish line, so we’re calling on all alumni, parents and friends to rise to the challenge and help us achieve this goal.
Be an integral and permanent part of the new RecPlex and support Fairfield’s game-changing renovation!

I am curious why this fundraising effort isn't being done in tandem with our new (yet to be unveiled) capital campaign. Does anyone know why there is still a delay in the latter? Because of Stephanie Frost's departure? I wonder what the funding objectives of the campaign will be.
"Fairfield University wishes to expand the existing 16,471 sf 1977 facility through a 50,000 sf addition on four floors. The addition will be linked to the existing school by a two-story connector. Newman and Programming Consultant RDG Architects, located in Omaha Nebraska, worked with the School to identify the following chief goals: a new entry that announces an arrival at the University; transparent laboratory and simulation spaces to create “science on display” and promote interest in the nursing program amongst current and future students; laboratory spaces that are flexible, adaptable and state of the art; a facility that provides state of the art data and imaging technologies, as well as distance and computer based learning."....
Alumni Hall (circa 1958-59) also "announces an arrival at the University" and being attached to the renovated and expanded RecPlex will make a great impression on visitor arriving at the Main Entrance of Fairfield University. IMO, The best looking buildings at the Main Entrance are the Prep's Xavier Hall and Berchmans Hall and their renovated additions, not Alumni Hall.
FU73 - Completely agree and I think many on this board agree with you as well, but let's not forget that Rome was not built in a day.
After all the new dorm additions/redos, Rafferty Stadium, the Prep addition, the Rec Plex redo, the new turf field, and finally the Nursing school expansion, Fairfield will be looking very good.

Very ambitious plan for the school of nursing. I would love to see something similar for the DSB so we can continue to elevate the business program. Top notch facilities will be a huge draw to attracting top students. Where did you find the link? Why is this not being plastered all over the Fairfield website?
Why is this not being plastered all over the Fairfield website?....
The information on the addition to the School of Nursing is on the architect's website and not surprisingly NOT on the University's website. The University also wants donations to renovate Alumni Baseball Diamond but there is NO information available nor any plans or renderings available. In addition the Stag website still has the out of focus picture of Alumni Hall on the Facilities page. Too busy I guess to fix this?
StagThomas - I heard about and went searching. Newman Architects has done a lot of work for FU in the past and their website is great. They do some amazing work for some amazing Universities.
If you have time, you should definitely check out their site. It is a great way to get a sense of what the "competition" is building!
Fairfield University engaged us to develop a residential facilities master plan to achieve their Mission and Strategic Vision for undergraduate residential life, including: meeting the challenges associated with growth; identifying ways to improve eight existing residential halls and to replace 15 wood-frame townhouses (500 beds) with more durable and useful residences (800 beds); and developing a roadmap for implementation.
Confirming the University’s program involved reviewing their implementation of the developmental model for student residence and understanding the unique pedagogical, social, and ethical strategies comprising the University’s residential-life philosophy. We studied patterns of social organization on campus, including class-year affinities, themed living groups, and mentoring programs through on-site focus-group interviews, meetings with Residential Life staff, and review of Mission and Strategic Vision documents
Newman Architects has been engaged to design three residential life projects: the New Village Apartments and renovations of St. Ignatius House and Dolan Hall.
