Some of the new players are in Stagland, ready to start their Workouts. From the Twitter world:
@curtiscobb24 May 27 Couple more days till college workouts.. #tooAMP #Gostags
@jerry_johnson2 May 26 Sunday I will be in Connecticut starting workouts for college.. Really excited to embark on this journey
Scott King May 28 Derry big man teaming with highly-decorated frosh @tylernelson14 could be tough combo. Congrats to Rivals Alum Scott King who graduated from Stony Brook this Spring & will pursue a Masters degree while playing hoops 4 Fairfield
Heard King has been very impressive in this short window. Maybe the change to a new school will translate to a productive season in his final year.
King was able to contribute on a team that won 23 games last year. So I feel he will contribute even more this year for us. But he has something to prove. He has been behind Warney his entire career. What King has going for him is that he has a lot of skills..... both he and Degnan have a lot of different skills. But can they both rebound, defend, block shots and play physical as Amadou, Kirkland, Coleman, Malcolm.
We need leaders to emerge and I think we need two types. One who is the vocal type who motivates the others. The other type, woefully lacking in SJ's teams so far, is the physical leader, who doesn't say it but rather shows it ..displaying the toughness, determination, and self sacrifice to go up hard against anyone. Cooley always developed those guys.
Since, I have not seen Kasibabu in person or seen him play, I hope he is truly 6-8 or taller. He has good hops from some of the videos...... but I don't know if he has "Great" hops. I think better that Amadou, but not as good as AJ. He is also listed somwhere between 240 and 250lbs He definitely looks strong, and seems like a hard worker in the Weight room. As far as a rebounder, it seems from the videos that he likes to throw his body around and knows how to use a big/strong rear end.
Projecting the Future (2016/2017/2018)...... A Degnan/Kasibabu combo seems like a big strong and talented front. Steve Smith will be a Senior and could give us the Evanovich type of player. I would like to add a talented 7-1 player to that mix, that could grow in to a starter for 2019/2020
Anyone seen Degnan? I want to see him get MEAN this year. I know he has it in him. He has huge potential simply by working on his rebounding positioning and using his big body to his advantage.

Word is that Degnan is working out hard, and has got in better shape. Last year his pre-season injury caused him to get out of shape and IMO, gain too much weight. He started off the season with very poor shooting, and I felt he lost confidence in his game I expect a new look Degnan. Agree his Potential is huge. He was a high level recruit, and I would expect him to be a All-MAAC player before his career is over.
This year, the battle is almost a dead heat between Kirkland, Scott King, Degnan, Kasibabu, Coleman and Malcolm. That's 6 players for one 40mpg spot..... and I am not counting Amadou, whose health is a question mark, and I think even if he is healthy, he might play only 20mpg. And I expect Marcus to get 20mpg at the PF spot.

Interesting situation at the 4-5 spots for sure. Certainly there is a large amount of players for those two positions. And based on what we know about each I believe a case could be made for decent playing time for just about any one of them. But yet I also think it's fair to say that almost without exception (not counting newcomers King and Kasibabu)there have been some disappointments in the play of each so far for various reasons. And yes, Marcus getting a good deal of time at PF should be in the works, especially if Cobb in particular is as good as advertised and you want him on the court to complement what may be a lethal scoring unit with Marcus and Tyler. So Sydney has some major decisions to be made in this area. But as far as Degnan is concerned, this is an important year for him to start to establish himself as the player that his prep career suggested he could be. Extremely important when it comes for the future obviously when you consider who is leaving after this season. It's now up to him to learn from that rocky first season and work very hard to get his confidence back. I believe he has it in him to do just that.

Agreed. Sidibe has not really produced the scoring we had expected. I had high hopes Degnan but his shooting numbers were not anywhere close to what he had shown in high school and his defense and rebounding were also not there. Clearly he improved as the season went on, but he came short of what many of us think he could be capable of. Malcom Gilbert? We haven't gotten what we hoped for from him yet. Kirkland? Maybe the best of them but he did shown wild inconsistancy. Marcus Gilbert, I don't see him as a 4 despite the cries for him to move there. He's an outside shooter who can take it to the hoop. I see him at the three, and I believe Nelson or Cobb needs to play the point otherwise there is no room to play Gilbert, Nelson and Cobb together.
It will be interesting to see what Sydney does, I think those are your three best athletes and those three probably need to be on the floor together as much as possible. But I don't think you get much rebounding from those three and consequently, I expect to see them complimented by King, Malcolm, Kirkland, Sidibe, Degnan, etc.
