Columbia averaging 83 PPG in the young season. Record 3-2 including losses to majors K-State and Northwestern (that one in OT), but also including a win vs. D-III Kean. They shoot well and have balanced scoring. Four guys between 12 and 15 PPG. Good long range shooting club (37%). A great guard (Mado Lo) and excellent forward (Rosenburg) are particularly dangerous. In general their strength is definitely their backcourt. They can be scored upon. So given the new offensive prowess of the Stags I look forward to a pretty entertaining game with a final score for the winner around the 80 mark. We really need Jerome here. I hope he is ready. My own feeling is the Lions are every bit as good or better than Yale, so this will be tough. But hopefully with the new found confidence the Stags should have, they can pull this one off. This is like trying to defeat a team that would be in the top 4 of the MAAC. So to win would be a statement IMO. Go Stags!

Pomeroy gives both teams a 50% chance of winning this game; However they predict Columbia by 1. Columbia is ranked 103 and the Stags are 183. But where it becomes interesting is the Offensive and Defense efficiency, and Pace of Play
Columbia - Off=55, Def=184, Pace=337 Stags - Off=200, Def=147, Pace=62
Columbia is one of the slowest Pace teams in the country. However, their Offensive efficiency is very good. On the other hand, the Stags are one of the Fastest Pace teams in the country (62) , but our Offensive efficiency is a little less than average. But throw out the averages here….. cause the Stags offensive efficiency has been excellent the last 2 games.
The question is….. Can our offensive efficiency be good against a good defensive team? Both SHU, UMES and Bridgeport were not good defensive teams. UNC, Northwestern and Yale's defense was very good. Columbia's defense is exactly average (184).
will the barometer rise tomorrow for Syd " " , " the future is bright" Johnson signaling fair weather or fall signaling a storm ahead. Weather report tomorrow!
COLUMBIA’S STATUS The Lions shot 62.5 percent in the second half to turn a three-point halftime deficit into a 70-59 win over two-time defending SoCon Champions, Wofford Tuesday night.
FAIRFIELD’S STATUS The Stags set a school record with 17 made 3-pointers as they rolled to a 113-74 road victory at Maryland Eastern Shore. Marcus Gilbert led the charge with 32 points against the Hawks and is averaging 19 on the year while pulling down 5.4 boards per contest.
SERIES HISTORY... FAIRFIELD Friday will be the first meeting between Columbia and Fairfield.
COLUMBIA VS. THE MAAC The Lions are 21-24 all-time against teams currently in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Columbia’s most common MAAC foe is Manhattan with 24 all-time meetings, who the Lions will face on Dec. 9.
- Line-up checks in at 6-3, 6-3, 6-4, 6-7, 6-10 - they play 3 guards (6-3 to 6/4) and all 5 starters have good assist to turnover ratios….. 1.0 or above. - Guards - Mullins is a shooter/scorer, Lo is Dynamic, Quick and can steal the ball, along with being a shooter/scorer. Cohen is more of a 3 that can pass and rebound, but does not shoot much. - So, I would expect an excellent passing team which is the driver to their 50% FG%. - 37.4 three point shooting is not only good, but all 5 starters and their bench average over 30% - Their defense is only average and they play at a slower pace…. even though they do score a lot of points. Bench is just OK. - Rosenberg (6-7) and Petrasek (6-10) are decent rebounders, but not a lot of bench players over 6-4 get minutes. Their starting line-up is experienced and senior based, and very good as a team. - Rosenberg is their leading scorer at 14.4, Mullins at 13, but Lo is their most Dynamic player at 12.6.
Big test for Stags is to see if the stags can Ballhandle, Pass and Shoot against a decent Defensive team. If Segura does not play then we might not see much of our 3-guard, Quick line-up. One of our strengths this year is that we can play Quick or Big. We will need that flexibility to win.

Vegas has Columbia as 4 to 6 point favorites. Sagarin ratings (Stags 172nd, Columbia 82nd) suggest they should be three point favorites. Would be a great win if Stags can pull it off.
