If true, I am sorry to hear to hear this. At the Sienna game I sat behind the father of a current player. Degnan came in and did a nice job. I turned to the guy and said I could tell how hard Degnan had been working by how much weight he had lost. I also said that I think we made a big mistake by giving King minutes that could have been used to make Degnan a real asset for his last 2 years. He said "I know for a fact he has worked real hard and I agree 100%" He then added ominously "I sure hope they're not trying to run him off."
Too bad because he was starting to figure it out. Maybe looking at Matija and Jonathan, and both being a class behind him, made him think he'd find more PT somewhere else. Wish him well.
WTF, Kevin played well done the stretch and became a key member of the team. I am shocked and frustrated that he is leaving. The lack of continuity at Fairfield and in college basketball in general is disheartening and a symptom of greater problems within the college game.

I personally am very sorry to hear this news because I always thought he might have a lot to give to the Stags, but unfortunately it didn't work out as well as maybe I (or he) thought it might. But quite frankly I think this is one case where I believe Sydney and the staff made a mistake in how he was handled which caused to hurt his development greatly. As an example, just this past season when the team brought in Scott King and used him in many situations that possibly could have gone to Degnan, I thought that was a mistake. BTW this is NOT an indictment in any way of Scott, who was a great person and team player who basically played the exact same role that he did at his previous stop at Stony Brook. But I truly believe Kevin could have given the same amount of production and then some if Scott wasn't brought in. In fact in most cases this year Kevin was pretty effective in the limited time he had on the court. Check the statistics. They kind of bear this out. And of course if he had been used more he certainly would have been ready to really produce this coming year as an important BIG GUY in the Stag's lineup, something they (at least for the time being) are now in short supply of. Sum total is I don't blame Kevin for seeking greener pastures somewhere else. I hope it works out well for him wherever he goes. And of course I hope the Stags are already in the process of trying to replace him (2 more bigs needed now IMO), which truthfully I believe they will do.
This is very unfortunate. I am sure this had to do with his inconsistent playing time in his first 2 years. Somewhat understandable that he and Coleman were battling for backup minutes, But I also thought that Degnan should have got minutes ahead of Scott King. But with that said, Degnan still remains behind Kasibabu and Milin…… 2 players younger than him. However, I thought that Degnan would be part of a rotation of Kasi and Milin this coming year, Each playing 20+ mpg.
My guess is that he will be looking to go to Iona, Marist, Siena, or Albany. If Fairfield does not let him go to MAAC Schools, then I think Albany would be a likely choice. Iona did go after Degnan hard coming out of HS.

I'll be surprised in Degnan ends up in the MAAC. He's an immediate starter somewhere, but I don't think its at Siena or Iona.

Isn't there a rule that states that he would have to sit two years at another MAAC school (unless of course Fairfield waves the edict)? Just asking, don't know. But if true I would think it very unlikely Kevin would end up at a league school. However if it was only one year even at a MAAC institution, I would think Marist would be a perfect fit. Foxes have some nice young players, but all of them seems to be under 6'5 or so based upon what I saw this past season.
"I just thought it was the best decision for me and my family," said Degnan, who will have two years of eligibility remaining. "I feel like by going somewhere else I can find a coach who has a different role for me."
"I didn't like how I was used when I got in," he said. "They had me at the '5' a lot and I'm not a '5.' That's not my best position and I want to find somewhere where I can play my actual position."
Degnan committed to Fairfield the August before his senior year and chose the school over Fordham, Quinnipiac, Vermont and Siena. He said schools that recruited him previously are among those who have already contacted him.
