Impressed with his speed and mobility around the basket. That would be very valuable for Fairfield.
I think it listed him as 6-7, he didn't look that big to me. I thought maybe 6-5.
I wonder if that video was from a couple years ago. I did see where he was listed at 6-5 previously, then more recently 6-7. Can we split hairs here and say he is 6-6 now? But I do agree, he has good speed and mobility near the hoop. I also like the fact that they show him blocking shots and playing defense quite a bit. Somewhat different from a lot of these video presentations where everything seems to be 99% offense with these kids. Another good prospect I would think (along with a couple of others listed within the last couple weeks). Getting interesting!

quote author="rave" source="/post/39036/thread" timestamp="1460659304"]This kid reminds me of a bigger Flip Williams. Flip Williams started as a freshman on a Joe Desantis team.[/quote] Yeah, interesting comparison, although actually I think he was one year behind Joey. But as you and I know (and a few who have been around a while), Flip was a major part of a very good period of Stag basketball. Great compliment to Joey and Young and Balkun, etc. Could we get a chance to see if this guy could have a similar effect with the current team?
Well what if he's 6'6? Way I look at it, if he can REALLY PLAY, a couple of inches shouldn't matter too much at the SF position that I assume this kid plays. Especially at the MAAC level. Come to think of it, Villanova made out okay with a 6'6 and 6'5 forward bookending one big guy in the middle, and that of course was against the best competition possible. Height can be worshipped too much IMO.
In comparing Bains with Montgomery, I think we all need to be careful when we watch a highlight video (including myself). Both players shot 100% from the outside; however, everyone shoots 100% in Highlight video's. However, scouting reports have remarked on what a great shooter Bains is…. I have not found that info on Montgomery. That does not mean he can't shoot, just that it is not documented either way.
But what you can see from a video is Montgomery's athleticism to get to the hoop, his drive and intensity, and a swagger about him. And as Nash says….. his defense.
I would love to have Bains and Montgomery and another Big rebounder shot blocker. Maybe all 3 are all visiting at the same time.
Montgomery looks like a high motor kid who plays tough inside and seems, at least by the video, to know how to score iaround the basket. Nice to see a parade of blocks on that video too. I agree with JoeStag that he's probably not a great shooter. So he may have to do some work there. But he just may bring an inside game and toughness that can fill a role. He reminds me of some of the players on Wagner and nothing wrong with that. He's probably not an impact freshman but may have the makeup to become a valued contributor.
