Definitely bummed out that I will be away and can't make this event. But I am happy they are having it and hope a lot of people will show up. Looking forward to any comments about the evening and if any new information might be available. Schedule, recruiting, player improvement, etc., hopefully a lot of good things to help keep the excitement that some of us are feeling in regard to the coming season. And BTW I am also very happy that they are continuing the tradition of calling the question and answer session the Doc Pleban Roundtable, a tradition that goes back about a half a century. Indeed long-time fans of the program will understand entirely what I mean here.
FYI: Let Helen know by 5:00 pm today if any of you guys plan to go this Wednesday.

I RSVP'd but it's going to be difficult to make it on time with rush hour traffic. I wish it was a little bit later, but the university doesn't seem to care about anyone within a five mile radius of campus.
Fairfield University Athletics A note for those who have RSVPed for tonight's sold out Fairfield Basketball Night at the Levee: Doors open at 6 p.m. and the Doc's Roundtable portion of the evening will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Very nice event. Very well attended. I didn't learn much. Aida's is having a Visa problem. Coach B seems to be resigned to the fact that we are not a good rebounding team because we often play 4 smaller guys. (Downy explain why we make so little effort to crash the boards). I was told by Coach Koonce that Olie is the most aggressive player he has seen since he has been here. He never gives up. He also said that Curtis is really playing well with a year of the system under his belt. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not sensing a lot of excotement about our Freshmen. Maybe Mitch was downplaying it a little.
I think Mitch's point on rebounding was about trade offs. We have guys who shoot and run. And Tyler or Curtiss are just never going to be big rebounders. So you you live with that And get what you can from Jonathan, Amadou and Deniz.
Hard to get a feel for the frosh from Mitch. But I don't get a sense that we have a class like last season. More guys to fit roles. A skilled frosh big, a strong and tough wing and a polished backup PG; all spots we needed to fill in with maybe one moe player Ito come.

Don't know how much we will play 4 guards this year. Most likely we will always have 2 big guys out there …. Kasi, Milin, Amadou and Celen, with Amadou be being the smallest of the group at 6-8. Thats an upgrade compared to last year when we played 3 guards and a Hybrid like Marcus. The key is that Milin needs to take that next step as a defender and rebounder. He is going to get a lot of minutes.
Good the hear that Cobb is looking very good, thats the 2nd different person I have heard that from. Some questions;
How Big does Celen look? 6-9 with some bulk to him? Or is he on the thin side?

Last years frosh class excelled with 3 scorers like Cobb, Milin and JJ. This years Frosh class is not even close to being that offensively talented. However, the addition of Oli, Celen, Nolan and Aidas look to be a more physical class, which should help our defense and rebounding.
Any detail's and expectations for Deniz Celen?

Mitch joked that Deniz needs to get in better shape, which I would think is common for many freshmen. He described Deniz as a very skilled big man who will also help us on the boards. And Deniz looks like a big kid who will get bigger with weights. He did seem about 6-9.

79. how tall did he appear to be? Friend of mine in attendance seemed to feel his listed height (6'9") might be a bit of an exaggeration. Just curious what your opinion might be about this.

Disco, any indication as to how serious this visa problem is? Interesting that Aidas was in the USA this past winter playing for Spire Academy in Ohio for a while before he got injured (I think). Do they expect him to be on campus in September? I guess that's the main question here, right? Also, regarding the take about Olivier (from Coach Koncz), maybe your intuition on the new class might be correct, especially when comparing them to the production we got from the last two years in Tyler, Jerome, Curtis, Jerry, Matija and Jonathan, but yet it sounds like this one guy (Olivier) might be a true gem to bring in at this time. Especially because of his aggressiveness (which should help in the rebounding and toughness department), getting one immediate positive contributor would be very important I would think. Different from the last two years when we needed instant help from many. So obviously I hope what Kyle says is true, especially since it appears as though the kid is also a very skilled player.

Maybe we didn't learn much because this was scheduled at a time 3 of the men's coaches were away recruiting. They couldn't find a better date? Would have liked to been able to talk to Parotta.
Very enjoyable evening. Kid's were very cordial and seemed to enjoy being talked to. Matija has put on 15 pounds and looks taller, Denise is not a 95 lb. weakling and Olivier looks like a marine in training. He said he jogs to the beach and back every day. All the players seem to like each other which is important. Tommy Nolan will get more time than we think; just my opinion. Mitch gave a nice speech about Doc Pleban and the history of Doc's Roundtable. Plenty of good food, nice get together.
