From Scout - Roselle Catholic (NJ) point guard Hakim Saintil spoke with BillikenReport.com about his recruitment and how he feels about the Billikens.
When six-foot point guard Hakim Saintil watches Saint Louis University, he sees himself.
“Saint Louis is my style of play,” he told BillikenReport.com. “They have recruited small guards in the past. They know how to develop them. I see some of myself in them.”
Another appealing part of the Billikens is the Atlantic 10 Conference.
“Outside the power conferences, it’s right there,” Saintil said. “It’s one of the best. SLU was probably the most underrated team in the country until people started noticing how good they were.”
Fairfield has come on strong recently, but they came in late to the process. That hasn’t stopped Saintil from taking notice of their program.
“They have two guards graduating, so I see an opportunity,” he said. “The coach is a former point guard as well.”
Although he has yet to visit either school, he said he fully intends on checking out

Strengths: Saintil is a quick playmaking guard who constantly gets himself into the paint. He's got a quick first step to both sides and is very proficient at turning the corner when coming off of ball screens. He's a very good passer off the dribble, a threat with his pull-up, and a potentially good defender down the road.
Weaknesses: He's the type of guy who needs the ball in his hands to be effective. He's a little undersized, albeit strong in his core, and the type of guy who throws assists but not the pass that leads to the assist. He isn't a great shooter from behind the arc and needs to be in complete rhythm to make shots with any type of consistency.
Bottom Line: He's a drive-first playmaking style lead guard who is going to create scoring opportunities for himself and others but needs the ball in his hands and a good amount of freedom in order to play his game.
Great news, surprised to see all the love on the board all of a sudden for Hakim. I posted on here several times about him and nobody seemed to chime in. I have watched him play and talked to him several times.
Would be the ideal get for us at this point. Great ball handler that plays excellent D and has great court vision. Not a bad shooter either come to think of it. Plays on a stacked team with the top player in the state of NJ (Tyler Roberson; Syracuse) and in all the games I watched Hakim was arguably the best player on the court.
This kid is a true PG who I think we could sell on the playing time he could see here. Also comes from the same AAU program as Dez (Roadrunners) who have a knack for churning out some top talent.

bb, it is hard to chime in when we haven't seen him play or know much about him. But from reading your opinions, it sounds like you know what you are talking about considering the amount of times you have gone to his games. So yes this does possibly sound like exciting news. And considering that St. Loius appears to be bringing back two guards next season who get a lot of assists (indicating they may share the PG position), I would hope that the obvious opportunity of coming in and being the main "pure" PG of the Stags might become a strong selling point for him to come here.

For those of you that don't know what I am referring to here, I think it was the late Bob Ritzert on the radio who coined this term in his broadcasts of the games. Leo was as I remember a lefty forward with a decent shot as well as a friendly personality.
