The scrimmages are over, we roughly know who is currently injured and to what extent the injury is— so let’s see how we think we’ll do in the OOC portion of the schedule. I purposely left out 0-11 because I hope no one expects us to lose to D3 Mount St. Mary. Home games: UNH, Wagner, D3 game, LeMoyne Away games: BC, URI, Drexel, Sacred Heart, FDU, Yale Neutral Site: Queens
I voted 3-8 Home-2-2 possibly 3-1 if we can beat Wagner. Away/Nuetral-1-6 , win against only Queens including first loss to SHU who is rated #1 in the NEC. If Seck and Yetna return earlier then expected the O/O/C record could possibly be better. I

I went 2-9 because Stags tend to underperform in OOC games. It seems like ages since we have had a newsworthy upset. We do ok in the conference.
It seemed like Jay took forever to figure out his most effective players, compounding the situation by keeping potential talent on the bench without a fair shot for minutes.

^Interesting point. What was the last newsworthy upset that we have had in the OOC portion of our schedule. Is it the victory over Texas A&M in the tournament in Florida when Taliaferro hit all those 3’s.

I am still fairly optimistic about this team during the MAAC portion (2nd half) of the schedule, but I am predicting a very slow start. Without the two big men, Fairfield is going to need excellent outside shooting and is going to need to put up a lot of points as they are not going to be able to defend the interior. This is not something that has happened over the past 4 years. I see the stags starting 2-8 (including the 2 early MAAC contests) or best cases 3-7 with expected wins over MSM(D2) and Queens. Other possible wins early could be stealing the home game vs New Hampshire or away at SHU, but we are underdogs in those games, and in the other 6 games the opponent is a strong favorite.
In regards to the poll, I voted 3-8. Looking at the 11 game OCC only, Wagner, FDU and LeMoyne round out the non-conference, and all three games are winnable, particularly if we have Seck or Yetna available. So I expect us to be 2-9, 3-8, or 4-7 in the OCC portion. 5-6 would be overachieving in my mind. Add back in two maac losses, we likely start 2-11, 3-10 or 4-9 entering the true conference portion of the schedule.
I of course want to be optimistic, and if we can score there is no telling how many games we can win. But I haven't seen enough to feel this won't be a very slow start, and a team that does get much better over time.

I predicted the Stags will be 2-9... but I had this strange dream, last night, where I was telling someone that Fairfield was (in the dream) 12-4 and how happy I was to have been wrong.

I think everyone on this board would be very happy if your dream somehow comes true.
We’re 5-5 in the OOC portion of the schedule with only the one game against LeMoyne left for nonconference games. Shortly after Casey was named interim head coach, 20 of the 28 who voted in this poll thought that we’d have 4 or less than 4 OOC wins this season. Probably the only disappointed person who voted is the one who predicted we’d go 11-0 in our OOC portion of the schedule.

Never happier to be wrong and hoping we can add the exclamation point v. Lemoyne.

My gut tells me JS or RCosta would have voted 11-0. I think both are pretty happy with the 6-6 start
I know I am. I thought we would be very good in the MAAC portion of the schedule but the wins over Rider and Yale were unexpected. I had as best case as 5-6 and we have a chance to be 6-5. We have overachieved in my mind. I still expect us to be a top 4 MAAC. But there is a lot of basketball to be played, and we didn't just beat Duke, as happy as I am we can't project a win over an NEC team to apply to the rest of our opponents this season.
What was interesting about yesterday's game was we won handily in a game where we still made a fair number of mistakes. We used to have to play perfectly to win this team has a margin for error and can still win handily. Very impressive.
The Stags are Rolling like the Stones!! I predict no worse than a third place MAAC regular season finish and a very realistic shot of winning the MAAC! I told Coach CC before the season I have us finishing the regular season 20-11 and why not? Go Stags!! (14-6 Conference Record)
