I am very happy for Carly and Fairfield. This is my first year closely following the women's team. I always followed from a distance, but this year the success of the team and the exciting style of play have made me a true fan. Carly's coaching skill and charismatic personality along with the work of the social media staff have created a unique identity for the program that will lead to strong recruiting classes and interest from those entering the portal from other schools. It is a formula for sustained success. If she continues to grow the program she won't have to leave to move up, because the team will be moving up. Great news! Tommyd74 - CTD, Blake, and Staff have harnessed lightening in a bottle. FU has so, so much to offer. So, happy for the women’s teams in basketball and lacrosse. I feel like we have been close on the men’s sides been have not caputured the flags. All being said, onward and upward. It’s a beautiful thing to think that our women’s team’s might take this University to the next level in sports and academics! Something documentaries are made for!

CTD is being mentioned as a possibility for Kentucky HC. With Ky men just going down, maybe she'll get the men's job!

FANTASTIC news. Congratulations to coach Carly and her staff. It's great to look forward to not only today's game, but also to what lies ahead in the coming years with her in charge. Go Stags!

In CTD’s tweet that jenningsbeach posted above, Carly wrote —- Fairfield IS the big time. Women’s basketball is important here.
Sounds like this year’s season is only going to be the first step of an incredible journey for the program.

From the article: "Thibault-DuDonis received a contract extension Thursday that will keep her at the school through the 2029-30 season." And if you read CTD and Blake's twitter posts, sounds like they feel good about being in CT.

And if you read CTD and Blake's twitter posts, sounds like they feel good about being in CT. I really doubt CTD stays at Fairfield through the ‘30 season. How many years she stays will depend to a large degree to the terms of her buyout clause, which of course are not going to be made public. The NCAA has stated that starting next year, units will be created for the women’s tournament similar to how they’ve operated in the men’s tournament for several years. That will have more schools willing to pay more for young coaching talent.

Never heard this before. Can you elaborate?

The NCAA has stated that starting next year, units will be created for the women’s tournament similar to how they’ve operated in the men’s tournament for several years. That will have more schools willing to pay more for young coaching talent. What are the "units" being created? How do they operate on the men's side and how do they impact young coaching talent? Never heard this before. Can you elaborate? From the Athletic article linked to below (it’ll be behind a paywall I think): Each men’s team that participates in March Madness earns a sliver of NCAA Tournament revenue called a “unit” for making the field and then one unit for each subsequent win. First Four victories count, too. Each NCAA Tournament unit is worth just over $2 million and is paid out over the course of six years.Although the author states each team, I believe it’s actually the conference which receives the money. I have read that based on St. Peter’s run to the Elite 8 a few years back, each MAAC school in the conference at that time will receive approximately $150,000 from the MAAC for 6 years as its share of the money that the MAAC received for St. Peter’s units in that 2022 tourney. This is why the high majors want as many teams from their conference as possible in the men’s tournament. Virginia getting blown out in the First Four game brought a $2 million unit to the ACC. Up to and including this season, the women’s tournament did not have any unit distribution from its national tournament. The NCAA announced this week that they intend to create a unit system for the women’s tournament beginning next year. Also from Nicole Auerbach’s Athletic article: The NCAA specifically asked its media consultants to create a valuation for the women’s basketball tournament as part of its new media rights deal with ESPN, which was announced in January. Within the contract, which will begin next fall, the women’s basketball tournament is valued at approximately $65 million per year. That number is an important starting place for the formation of the unit program. But it is still not clear exactly how it would be structured in terms of who can receive units, when they would be paid out, and if they would be equal to the monetary value of the men’s tournament units.theathletic.com/5404013/2024/04/10/ncaa-womens-tournament-units-distribution/?source=user_shared_article

Thanks, didn't realize the "share" in the tournament revenue was different.
