Here is another poor decision, this one on Father Kelly, that is selling the vacant property on the north side of the campus. All part of the short sighted decisions made by the admin. Yesterday, I was speaking to a Canisius alum, who indicating things are starting to change for the better at the buffalo school. Why? He attributed it to the schools first a non Jesuit president put in charge about 3 years ago. In Fairfield its past time we put a business person at the helm. The mistakes are many: 1) The Remington Family offered money to the school to build a combination hockey / basketball facility on campus. This money was turned down because Fairfield did not want a combo facility. 2) The school had an opportunity to buy the property that runs next to Jogues Hall/Northwest. Instead they passed and it became houses 3) The school acquired and then sold the property that was owned by the sisters of Mercy. Huge, huge mistake. Quinnipiac, UB, and UNH are all expanding at separate locations because they don't have adjoining property. Fairfield had adjoining property and failed to retain it. Stupid move. 4) Fairfield failed to acquire the Ludlow property and move the prep there. These 4 decisions were all huge mistakes in my view. Some opportunities only come once, and each of these were once in forever opportunities.

As the smallest MAAC basketball facility (1,950 seats including chairback seats) and a year older than Fairfield's Alumni Hall, Rider again updated their Broncs' Zoo (Alumni Gymnasium) after the 2012 season: Alumni Gymnasium, at 54, is the oldest building on Rider University's Lawrenceville campus and is currently undergoing much needed renovation.
The primary focus of the renovation is the replacement of the heating system, original to the building, with modern heating and air conditioning, significantly improving the facility for use by Rider's Division I athletic programs and larger scale events. With this renovation comes the opportunity to make several other improvements including a drop ceiling with recessed lighting, a new sound system and newly sheet rocked walls that will be branded to reflect the official Rider Athletics logos.
"The desire for a new on-campus arena has been on the horizon and still remains a future institutional goal," said Director of Athletics Don Harnum. "The improvements to Alumni Gym will help bridge the gap for the next several years and will have a dramatically positive effect on the overall look and feel of the facility. They will provide a much needed face lift to a venue that has been at the core of the Rider Athletics experience for over 50 years."
A portion of the funding for the new HVAC system was derived from the refinancing of existing bonds and a new money issue to finance a variety of energy efficiency initiatives on the Lawrenceville campus, with the balance of the funds from vendor commitments.
The renovations will be completed by mid-May. Even with the changes, the cozy charm of the Broncs' Zoo will remain as fans will still be able to sit as close to the action as in any facility in the country, retaining the great home court advantage for the University's basketball, volleyball and wrestling teams.
