#1 Quinnipiac defeats Boston College 3-2 in the Frozen Four. QU will play North Dakota for the D1 Hockey National Championship Saturday night on ESPN. This is QU's second trip to the national championship game in four years. QU also won the ECAC Hockey League regular season and tournament championships. QU currently has a 32-3-7 record.
Also, their women's hockey team finished the year ranked #5 nationally winning the ECAC Hockey League regular season and tournament championships with a record of 30-3-5. They narrowly missed going to the Women's Frozen Four.
This year, both the men and women have been dominate in the ECAC Hockey League and nationally. With Notre Dame leaving Hockey East after next season, BC, BU, and other hockey powerhouses are courting QU to switch conferences. However, the QU administration has made it clear that they love playing against the storied hockey programs and world-class academic institutions of the ECAC and have no plans of leaving. With QU ranked #1 in the nation and playing in the national championship game they are perfectly happy just where they are.
I still say Fairfield is missing a golden opportunity to build their own D1 hockey team. There is a market for it here in Connecticut.

Quinnipiac Hockey also in Sports Illustrated: Pecknold kickstarted the rise of Quinnipiac hockey, but it was turbo-charged by a new arena. Home games were played at the Northford Ice Pavilion, some eight miles from campus, even after Quinnipiac moved from NCAA Division II to Division I in 1998 before joining hockey heavyweights like Harvard, Yale and Cornell in the ECAC in 2005. The Bobcats used to play Yale at the Bulldogs’ Ingalls Rink in New Haven, as the home team. The full transformation of this afterthought hockey program finally came with the opening in 2007 of the $52 million TD Bank Sports Center. Built as part of a larger $360 million investment in a second campus, the arena proved to be an invaluable draw for top recruits who otherwise wouldn't have heard of the school with the funny name. www.si.com/nhl/2016/03/25/qunnipiac-hockey-2016-ncaa-hockey-tournament

North Dakota wins title - 6-1 final score Great exposure for Quinnipiac despite another tough NC performance. However, I would be curious to hear what the audience ratings were for this game. Quinnipiac and North Dakota are not exactly household names.
