Actually an older construction photo but also of the University's Jesuit patron saint (at least the back of his head). Fairfield UniversitySt. Robert Bellarmine is keeping watch over the DiMenna-Nyselius library as storm clouds come rolling in ☁️ 🌩️

On campus today before “ meet the coaches night”. Construction is close to being completed on the new Dolan School of business with the faculty moving in beginning August 27. The nearby new condos are also in the final stages of completion. On the other side of campus the interior renovations of Jogues Hall and Campion Hall will need to pick up the pace in order to be completed on time for the incoming students. Another section of the older townhouses are being rebuilt next to Raferty Stadium. The amount of construction being completed is really astonishing! Let’s get all of these projects completed so the work on the new alumni hall can begin. Stags up!

Stopped by campus before men’s basketball fund raiser on Thursday. The many projects underway on campus this summer are coming to closure very nicely. The Renovation of Canisus Hall and Jogues Hall appear to be complete. Finishing touches to the renovation of the townhouses, new Dolan school of business and new townhouses are Underway. The new townhouses are very striking, however the Dolan school of business not so,IMO.

Well in my "IMO", the Dolan is impressive and is appreciated by Fairfield students, alumni and the community as well.

The new townhouses are very striking, however the Dolan school of business not so,IMO. IMO, the building is beautiful. My issue is "where it is" and how it fits with the landscape. Growth needs to be carefully planned and this really underscores the short sightedness of selling the property on the north end of campus years back. In my opinion, if there were a president like Nemec in charge at the time (and of course the Pres would need to influence the trustees)you would never have sold it-even if a couple of trustees were pushing it. How has SHU done it? Are they better fund raisers? -- Great River GC, GE Property, Community Theater, property across from the main campus. They have gone in the total opposite direction and not sure how they are financing it. But, they are growing (and quite honestly I don't understand the attraction). Not sure how they are doing financially, but you are not usually buying something if you are financially strapped. It's amazing how they can acquire all these properties within a couple of years and we could not finance a new Alumni Hall for over 20 years. I'm not saying we should go on a buying spree. So many private colleges are struggling as the student base shrinks. But, space has to be part of your long term plan and FU is now out of it. Unfortunately, you can't rewind the clock and undo the damage. To FU's credit, academics were never sacrificed and we did do something very well--Make our kids employable. That was an awakening and the result of a late pivot focusing on business, nursing/health sciences and engineering.

Selling off the northern most land on campus to a developer that then became the Mailands Road cul-de-sac neighborhood was one of the most short sighted acts in the history of Fairfield University by the past administration and Trustees.
Sacred Heart University (1963) Ranking #35 Regional Universities North Enrollment - 8,532 (5,428 undergraduates)(3,104 postgraduates) Tuition & Fees - $41,420 Endowment - $157.5 million
Quinnipiac University (1929) Ranking - #13 Regional Universities North Enrollment - 10,207 (7,425 undergraduates)(2,782 postgraduates) Tuition & Fees - $47,960 Endowment - $526.6 million
Fairfield University (1942) Ranking #1 Regional Universities North Enrollment - 5,192 (4,113 undergraduates)(1,079 postgraduates) Tuition & Fees - $48,350 Endowment - $362.6 million

Paulie74 - I think these other schools are levering themselves on cheap money based on current tuition cash flow (unless they have tons of donors that we don’t know about). A dangerous game with 2026 (lower enrollment) getting closer, but who knows, it has allowed these schools to transform themselves. Maybe they are “winning”... Fairfield, for whatever reason, has been more conservative.
Not buying that property was a mistake, but Fairfield is moving up the rankings and the campus is transforming albeit at a slower pace.
Playing the long game. 😉
Btw, if Dolan had a roof deck bar with views of the Sound, I think everyone on this board would love it! Ha. Maybe something to add in the future.

I'm just amazed at the pace of their acquisitions and yes they may have to pay the piper down the road. But they make these decisions at an incredible (and maybe reckless pace). But the opportunities have been there and they grabbed it. Perhaps FU is a bit too conservative in this area. I was very excited when I heard of discussions with FU and Kleban on the GE Property for a tech campus, only to hear SHU acquired it shortly after that. That said, would enjoy meeting on the Dolan rooftop for a dirty martini.

Fairfield UniversitySt. Robert Bellarmine is keeping watch over the DiMenna-Nyselius library as storm clouds come rolling in ☁️ 🌩️ Just rode through campus as the freshman were arriving. I was as excited as they were just watching the unloading and the energy in the air. Amazing how times change. I was a junior before I could get into Jogues (Northwest). The freshman dorms now are Jogues, Gonzaga, Loyola, Campion, and Regis. Bed Bath and Beyond had a big tent next to the Stag Statue with campus essentials. Very convenient for students and parents scrambling for those last minute amenities they forgot. The statue above is now at the facing the driveway at the entrance to Bellarmine Hall. (he is looking up the Bellarmine Hall driveway from the Donnarumma Hall side of the street). Truly amazing how all the construction was completed. The new townhouses look incredible and landscaping as well. They put beautiful green sod around the buildings that looks like Augusta National!
