I really like the guys we’re going after. Let’s hope at least one comes on early for us. But I’m planning to go to games next season and would love to see some signings soon.

Hope the coach is studying the transfer portal as well as the high school list. With five spots open there is certainly opportunity to be offered. Not necessarily quantity by filling all five spots, but more so quality is the important thing. A couple of real good players, difference-makers as I would call them, could make all the difference in the world in the first season of the Jay Young era.

If he isn't looking at all options, then we are probably facing the worst season in the history of Stag basketball.
The question is "Is the staff/admin looking to take a hit next year so that they can focus more on the future of the program (i.e. try to cultivate recruits for 2020 and beyond instead of worrying about next season) or are they looking to have a decent 2019-20 season and thus are actively pursuing grad transfers and JUCOs?
Not sure which way the wind is blowing at this point.

I've seen him. He has the swagger you want and he can put the ball in the hoop.
I saw him when he was offered by Rutgers, so he was young, but you knew he was going to school for free down the road. The only knock I had then, and would wonder about now, is his defense. He had all the skills and physical gifts, I just thought he was typical of younger star players in that he spent more of his energy on the offensive side of the court.

How long ago was that? Maybe he has gotten better in this area? Supposedly Young emphasizes defense, so I guess he would consider that in offering a scholarship, correct? Anyway, just the fact that Rutgers was interested excites me a bit if Akot were to become a Stag! Hope to find out if my excitement is justified.

Well actually I think the wind is blowing a bit like it was at the Stag baseball games the last couple of days, IE in more than one direction. I agree with you, we better get a couple of good players in here for next year or we are in serious trouble. And actually the truth of the matter is it's hard to try to put together teams now with freshmen who you think can develop down the road because unfortunately the trend nowadays is that if a player comes in and has success, chances are he might look into transferring to a higher level. Unfortunate reality seems to be that MAAC schools and other mid-majors have almost become farm teams for kids to move up. Therefore every year should be a shopping opportunity for pursuing grad transfers and JUCOs, although obviously good freshmen should not be ignored. And the word around campus is that both these aspects of the recruiting process are very much being considered by Jay Young.
This player appears to be from the same high school where our new transfer Ngalakulondi played.
Yes it does. Proctor Academy in New Hampshire is a AA member (highest level AAA) of the NEPSAC organization (New England prep schools). Big time competition usually means the kids are well-prepared. And interestingly, a quick check of recent commitments from that school shows that Geo Baker was a Rutgers 2017 signee. So Jay Young obviously has a connection there.
A Bol Akot (PG) and Chef Ngalakulondi (PF) would give us a nice combo at 2 positions we need athleticism. Jay Young is starting off his Recruiting on a good note. Prep School players and A-10 transfers are where we should be recruiting. Maybe add some Big East transfers.
2020 prospect Bol Akot received an offer from Robert Morris on Sept. 3. It is the seventh overall offer that the Manchester (NH) native has received. Saint Peters, Towson, and Siena also have offered him since May 1.
Akot’s game is predicated on speed and getting to the basket. The 6-2 point guard demonstrated that he can run a team and knock down perimeter jumpers this summer. Both of which were both major questions, according to D.C. Blue Devils coach T.J. Thompson. He is also a fantastic distributor and possesses a strong mid-range game.
Rutgers and St. Bonaventure have been recruiting Akot for the past few years and have reportedly been pushing hard for his services. Akot has official visits set-up at Fairfield and Towson and is also hearing from New Mexico and Weber State among others.
At the Fundraiser, it was mentioned that we were going to get a few official visits in the first 2 weeks of September. Bol Akot could be one of them. Looks like a Muti-talented PG.
