New Hampshire point guard Bol Akot has hit the visit stage of his recruitment but don’t expect him to decide soon.
The 6-foot point guard has Fairfield, Niagara, Towson, Siena and New Mexico, to name a few, recruiting currently, and has set up official visits to two in September.
He will be at Fairfield starting September 20th and then Towson the following week starting the 27th.
Akot is rated 22 in New England Prep. Jalen Leach is rated 44. Does that mean QU got the better player? Akot is 22 positions higher.
We have to win the Recruiting Wars against our MAAC Brethren. Leach was picked before Akot, and Leach was taller. But whoever won this war is extremely important, Because both could be a starting guard for 4 Years. And in those 4 years ..... it could mean upwards of 10 wins to the team with the better player.
Rick Kelly leaving might have been a factor. Stags would appear to have a starting PG for, at least, the next season.
I'm sure Rich Kelly leaving might indeed have been a factor, a big factor actually. And thinking back three years, it was most likely Mikey Dixon leaving for St. John's that opened the door for Kelly to become a Bobcat in the first place. Doors open, opportunity knocks, you have to be ready to take advantage both from an organizational and individual standpoint and it appears as though that is exactly what has happened here. Will Akot be as good as Kelly in the long run? And if it appears he will, will he jump ship for a perceived better situation before he completes four years? Be interesting to see how this situation plays out.
And as far as why maybe the Stags couldn't get him, the fact that Caleb Green should be the PG for the next two seasons probably did have something to do with it. Purely speculation (on my part) however.

Yeah winning the recruiting wars are crucial, so we'll see what happens with these two players and their respective schools. Anyone in the top 50 NERR is probably pretty talented though. Therefore a difference of 22 spots could mean a lot but maybe not so much at all. Don't forget, Jesus Cruz was rated in the 90s on the same list three years ago when the Stags got him. And Rich Kelly was 59th.

Time will tell. Watching Leach's tape I see him more as a 2G but we will see. Should hopefully play well with Caleb at PG next year too. I wouldn't mind getting another guard who can score either as a PG or SG too.

I'd hope Green and Chef will both be excellent players and be around for 2 years... but I'd imagine they will both be grad students after the next season.... and we know how that tends to go.

Here is another evaluation of Jalen Leach. This is from Rimsnet and at #27. Looks like more of a scorer. Also, goes 1-0n-1 too much. That could be more like Needham and opposed to a Tyler Nelson.
27. G Jalen Leach 6″4 185lbs. Tilton School/ New Hampshire Strengths: Dynamic scorer who can create off the bounce that is elite ball handler. Has excellent speed and quickness in transition and isn’t afraid to go vertical put down a flush. Capable defender that can make impact blocks and steals on occasion. Weaknesses: Defensive effort comes and goes at times. Definitely high level offensive scorer but can focus on going 1 on 1 a bit too much and can be ball dominate.

Given the state of affairs, last season. I'd move that into the "Strengths" section.
Maybe he is a little too much 1-on-1... but a 2G that can score inside/outside and will take his man off the dribble... while also making plays for others... sounds like EXACTLY what the Stags need. Hope he can do those things at a high level.
