scrolling thru twitter the last week , there were mixed reviews on the talent level at these camps. (believe 4 took place simultaneously)
the big dogs were not there, and the level of competition made some players look better than they are.
while its no fault of the players , I think these camps might aid the coach who is bad/lazy recruiter the most...why go out and sell when you can get all the kids to come to you in one place and just offer everyone who walks in
not to sound negative , I think its great for the kid who needs a little more exposure, or maybe who has been slept on, or grew late ..
it was interesting to read every hoop reporter's knee jerk reaction to year one of these camps here in the slow weeks of summer
Syd was in charge (in some capacity) of this one at UConn I think

Some fair points for sure. But we know that good players are everywhere. And every camp of significant size has a mix of talent. Surely some AAU types don’t like the NCAA getting into the prospect camp business so probably some sour grapes there. Maybe Nash has some insights since he attended.

Yes I was there briefly (about three hours) in the main venue of Gampel Pavillion. After watching a group of kids being put through drills by our own Mitch and Pete Gillen, the second part of the afternoon was spent viewing a full game (running time) between what looked like pretty talented players. How talented? First of all, not having access to any roster sheet information meant no knowledge of any of the players or reputation as such, but in general I would say that while there were obviously no big-time national studs on display, nevertheless probably almost everyone who saw action in this one particular contest would be considered a candidate for a mid-level D-1 school. Some even a bit higher like (say) A-10 or that type of quality. My understanding was that there were basically three levels of talent at this camp, therefore I assume those participating in other games in other places next door were not up to the quality of these kids. That's my guess anyway. But to summarize my feeling, this event was a paradise for Fairfield and similar mid-level coaches, and certainly being in attendance was mandatory in order to keep up. Maybe there will be tweaks and corrections to these camps in the coming years, but all in all I think this was a great new addition to the college landscape, at least for the mid- D-1 coaches and also maybe D-2 types. Maybe not so much for the high majors however.
I really like this kid a lot. He fits perfectly into what we need.
Toby Okani says he will be making his decision on April 10th........ thats tomorrow. He has got a lot of schools interested. Toby Okani is a highly Athletic, multi-talented guard who can play all 3 guard Positions. I would say that a Leach/Okani would be a perfect combination. That guard combo is what is needed to put us on the Top of the MAAC.

Reminds me of some great long, athletic wings we've had, Gilbert, Hawk, Edney and could pair well with Caleb Green. Lets hope Good Friday is the Stags day to land Toby!
