The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team has been picked to finish seventh in the MAAC Preseason Poll as voted upon the league's 11 head coaches. The Stags return 16 letter winners from last season's squad while welcoming 16 newcomers with 14 freshmen and two transfers into the mix.
"Based off of last year's results, I can see the logic behind our placement by the MAAC coaches," Head Coach David Barrett, who will be entering his second season with the Stags said. "I'm glad that we'll have a season's worth of games to play before seeing where we actually end up. I like our team and am excited to see where we can go with this group."
Out of the 16 returning players, the Stags bring back eight of their top-10 points leaders from 2018 including junior Gabby Diodati, who has led the Stags in assists her first two seasons. Liz Dumas and Brooke Hernon lead the returning members with three goals from last season while sophomore Amy Akerley tied the duo with seven points on two goals and three assists.
The Stags will open up their 2019 campaign with a home match against Colgate on Thursday, Aug. 22 at 4:00 pm.
Last season the team finished (7-9-2)(2-6-2) and failed to qualify for the 2018 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship.
