From Sharkey on the MAAC Board: So here is the scout on Edokpayi, straight from a source very close to the kid's HS. He didn't play much as a JR., but should get plenty of PT his Sr. season. He is a 6'7'' kid who is athletic and runs the court very well and plays hard but really doesn't have much of a offensive game. He had 8 solid offers and was receiving a lot more serious interest, even from some higher level programs. those close to the program were a bit surprised by all of his offers and building interest from others, but love his upside and believe he can develop over the course of his Sr season. Quote from a AAU buddy was he he thinks the kid, while again has upside, needs to develop to have a impact at the MAAC level.
Welcome aboard, Jason! “He had 8 solid offers and was receiving a lot more serious interest...”. Seems like if he keeps working, he’ll compete fine in the MAAC.
Sounds like a good commitment for us. Does Jason fill our last slot for 2020?
We have Landon and Eze as seniors. Jason is our only verbal right now. I would not be surprised with a transfer and even if Aidas does not coming for his RS Senior Year in 2020-2021. But as of right now 1 more scholarship.
In the videos I can find he looks like he can score in a lot of different ways - smooth moves. Quick off the floor.
Not many video's out there, but I would say that he looks like more of a PF than a 3. Another Athletic Player that Jay Young has picked up. Has inside and outside skills.

Yeah that's what he is listed as in the interview posted at the top of this thread. Apparently somewhat limited in minutes to this point on his scholastic team because of talented kids ahead of him, this year might be a chance to shine as he moves up. Might be a classic case of an "under the radar" performer that Jay Young as an assistant has been able to help recruit in the past. We'll see in due time of course. But I am happy waking up to this news this morning. Welcome to Stag Country Jason!

Yeah 1 more left, certainly so if Aidas is not here next season. With that one I would hope we would recruit a guard, particularly a 2 or a combo, especially if Aidas is no longer around. However who knows what happens in the spring after evaluations from this coming season? Glad to get an early commit though!
It definitely sounds like a kid that was stuck behind other talented kids - then got his chance to shine this summer. Got a bunch of schools interested quickly. FU jumped at him. Will be interested to see how things evolve over basketball season.

I've seen Mt. St. Joe many times and they are always loaded. Many are picking Maryland as a top ten school this year and 2 of the starters (1 soph and 1 junior) are from Mt. St. Joe. Even very good kids sometimes must wait their turn in that program.
Jason joins Chris Maidoh as our second player from Maryland. Nice area to be recruiting. Young has been clear that he wants good athletes. A long 6-7 player with a high motor who runs the floor—can’t have too many players like that. It will be interesting to see him develop this season.

While Vincent Eze ia a Senior, I think we might have an opportunity to keep him another year. He really has played only 2 years, but the NCAA would have to approve of that extra year (4 years Played in 6 years)
Look at next years Potential Roster (2020-21)
Guards -------- Caleb Green - Jr Taj Benning - Sr Calvin Whipple - Jr Aidas Kavaliauskas (Possible Return)
Wings ------- Jesus Cruz - Sr Allan Jeanne-Rose - So
PF -------- Tshiefu Ngalakulondi - Jr Jason Edokpayi - Fr Chris Maidoh - So Omar El- Sheik - Sr
Center ---------- Wassef Madwani - Sr Vincent Eze - (Possible Return) Kevin Senghore-Peterson - Sr
Non-Scholarship ----------------- John Kelly - SF Mark Henry - Guard
Well Chef and Green will change the whole dynamic next season. But so many players this season are auditioning for roles on the 20-21 roster. How will Benning handle the heavy load at PG? Will Cruz become a consistent scoring threat and an all MAAC player? Will a junior big man develop as an impact guy? Will Whipple show a steady hand at SG and knock down more shots? Will Maidoh give us an emerging offensive game to go with his shot blocking? Will Rose’s athleticism get him playing time as a freshman?
