The biggest question is if we have designed a new Convocation Center that is already out of date. Since we don't know how Education, Business, Entertainment and Athletics/Sports will operate in the future we need to get that right.
14 days ago Pennsylvania allowed Golfing under CoronaVirus restrictions. While some of it is the same, some of it is much different.

Yeah I guess just like everything else the unpredictability of the future probably means it prudent to pause a bit before rushing into something so big which could prove an albatross if events don't go as planned. It's kind of like the major problem this country and the rest of the world is facing right now involving what is the right time to "open up" society to the things that have been the staples of our very existence for all our lives. Nothing easy as we know as long as we have so much uncertainty, and that's tough on everyone obviously. I guess though regarding not only our aspect of the Pandemic and how it relates to the Convocation Center, but also to the misery that so many people are feeling at the moment, I am going to take the optimistic viewpoint that eventually we will enter more normal times (though of course nothing will ever come back to exactly the way it was). I believe that at some point this country and a large part of the world will recover quite a bit. And going hand in hand with this I still believe that we will eventually bring kids back to campus for the college "experience," and with that will come the new building even if in a little different form than maybe we thought we were going to get. Let's hope anyway.
BTW JS, side-note regarding the golf. The sport is indeed a bit different right now as I found out when I thought I made a birdie putt (something I hardly ever do) only to see the ball which was not going particularly fast pop back out of the highly raised mental cup. I counted it anyway! Is that cheating?

Well Coach Frager certainly sounds optimistic in spite of so much uncertainty. No suggestions of derailing the whole thing although he realizes that Alumni Hall could indeed be back in play for another year. But according to him (his instinct actually) it will happen. So I hope he's right!

No, just creative scoring addition of a well deserved birdie putt.
I’m excited about the new players we have coming in this year and next. It really seems that Coach Young is improving the program. I’m looking forward to the upcoming season. But if there is to be a 20/21 season, it seems clear now that the only way games can be open to spectators with proper distancing protocols in place is to hold all of the games at WBA , and probably with the 9,000 seat configuration back in place. There’s no way we are playing in the 2,700 seat gym for at least the next year or two. Kind of funny that the “9,000 seat hockey arena in downtown Bridgeport” is looking pretty good right now.

Well I guess this proves the WBA is NOT a viable home for the Stags if it is only an attractive option because it is empty.
IMO 9000 seat arena or 2400 seat gym, no basketball game is worth risking you life. Till there's a vaccine, you won't see me at any large gatherings, especially with ESPN3.

Certainly everyone has their own choices and I respect that. However concerning myself, if the experts of knowledge in the field, namely the doctors and scientists much more than the politicians, say that with proper precautions it is reasonably safe to attend a basketball game, well I think I will be there. But that's just me. But the fact is, for this coming season, the WBA should be the only option to try to create as safe a situation as possible.
Wrong. You misinterpret my thought. WBA has always been an attractive option. Now it’s also the ONLY option.
If WBA is the ONLY option from a socially distancing perspective, than I'd say our basketball season is in great danger, because four MAAC schools ONLY have facilities that hold less than Alumni Hall. So if Alumni is not an option because of its capacity, then the other four would not be, either.
Good point. Maybe all league games for all teams will be played at WBA. Except for Siena because they have an even larger “hockey arena”.
Difference is their arena is full.
IMO, unless there is some miracle widespread vaccine in October, no college or professional sports should have fans in the stands this fall.
The problem is money, not human safety, will drive the decisions. Very sad as more people will die than need to. Luckily, smart people will stay away and very few will be in attendance. Today, 80% of people are not ready to attend a large sports or entertainment venue. In the fall, nothing changes, except people are increasingly restless and impatient. But the conditions to transmit the virus is exactly the same as today.
IMO human safety has always been the prime factor from the very beginning of the outbreak and will continue to be the prime driver behind what activities can reopen safely and what will remain closed. I am optimistic that science will catch up a provide an answer.

I think we already have the answers. Its just a matter of getting the information out to the physicians. That are 4 classes of drugs that have been very effective at helping people With COVID. Existing drugs that don't need clinical trials that can be prescribed off label. No miracle cure just drugs that will significantly reduce deaths and help people get better faster.
