If I am reading the Orlando Invitational brackets correctly it appears the maximum games FF can loose at Disney World is two games not three loses as I thought was possible. Does that seem correct? Of course this assumes the prediction that the Stags are the weakest team in the tournament becomes reality.
The Stags play 3 games in Orlando win or lose.
Think of it like this 74, you have four winners and four losers the first day. The winners get thrown into one pool (winner's bracket) and the losers get thrown into the other (loser's bracket) pool. Semi-finals in each bracket are played the next day followed the day after (or in this case two days later because of a day off) by the championship game in the winner's bracket, the 3rd place game, and then also the 5th place game in the other bracket plus the 7th place contest. Therefore every winner that day gets an assigned number for their finish (champ, 3rd, 5th, 7th) and the losers get their own (2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th). Of course this is a very difficult assignment for the Stags, but in the history of this tournament that has been going on for over a decade, the MAAC representative has usually managed to win one game. Right now it looks like Harvard because of some injuries has not been the power that many were predicting, therefore if we were to play them I think we would have a reasonable shot at winning. Let's think positive however. While USC is obviously good, I don't think they are thought of as a Top-25 type team at the moment. Certainly not as strong as Maryland who we just competed well against. So who knows, maybe we could be placed in the "winners" bracket after Thursday! I wouldn't count on it however.

Well in the games I have watched, the Bobcats have been primarily a zone team this year. Maybe they should have adjusted today however considering SHU hit almost 50% of their 3-point shots. Probably the biggest reason why they won by almost 20 points. If they were to play again tomorrow I think it might be an even contest however. Biggest difference today was that Rich Kelly had a bad game as opposed to the first two in this event in which he was terrific. He is that important to his team.
I agree if SHU played QU today it would be an even game. But the main reason SHU won was because PG Cameron Parker had 16points and 16 Assists. He played an awesome game. In addition to Parker, 2G Ozier (13pts) and frosh shooting guard Tyler Thomas(17pts) looked really good scoring . Goes to show what a team can do with "Real" Multi-talented guards.
Also the 6-10 Spellman, have 2-3 blocks and a whole lot of Intimidations
Good guards and intimidating defense is a key to winning at our level
And speaking of Tyler Thomas, the old staff is gone and I hope we can improve in this area, but this was a local kid who was an outstanding player at Amity who I thought of at the time (reference high school thread two years ago) as someone who might be worth a recruiting effort by the Stags. I know they looked at him, and after that he went away to prep school for a final year of scholastic ball. Whatever, he's at SHU, and I think he will have a real good career as a Pioneer. But if someone in the area (and state) is worthy, the Stags need to do a better job of getting a commitment from now on!
And now having said that, Rich Kelly who is a STAR was obviously very local. However to be fair, at least when he was at Fairfield Prep, he was not rated very highly at the time. In fact to my knowledge he hadn't received any D-1 offers until after he had left Prep for Cheshire Academy. Recruiting is an in-exact science I know. But still, we have to do a better job getting good local players if we want to establish a pipeline to kids who historically have been signing with other schools.

Rider 72 Vermont 67 (best MAAC OOC win so far) Sacred Heart 97 Quinnipiac 80 (Pioneers shoot 60% from the field)
St. John's 78 UMass 63 (Minutemen coming back to earth)
Merrimack 62 Hartford 58 (Hawks outscore Lesley, but Warriors get win No. 5 in D1 debut season) Columbia 82 CCSU 52 (0-7 Blue Devils sinking faster than the Maldives)
that's a great win for rider. I was telling a buddy take Vermont in march if they wind up a 13-14. this might hurt their seeding if they get in.

Again not impressed (while it is a small sample size) in Quinn. I think Rich Kelly is a gritty scorer/defender but their other players were not impressive. They have a 7-1 freshman but didn't seem as polished as Maidoh on both sides of the ball. I think this is a team we can beat.
The way I see the MAAC right now is...
Top Tier: Iona, Siena Maybe Put It Together: Quinn, Rider, Canisius (have won some good games) Everyone Else Is Fighting to not be in PIG

Clingan and Tierney are big men that we should have been chasing awhile ago because they were certainly flagged here early before big schools got involved. Another one to look into is Will Barton, 6’6”, of St. Paul class of ‘21

Well Clingan is already out of reach I'm afraid, considering the offers and visits he has had already. UConn, Syracuse, Georgetown and Providence are among the schools I have read about who are very interested in this big guy from Bristol Central who after all will be just starting his sophomore year next month. Tierney, tall junior at Sacred Heart Waterbury (I assume he is still there) might not get heavy recruiting interest from a lot of upper level programs, but he is 6-11 or so with some decent skills, so yes if I was in charge I would be interested in him I think. Will Barton, don't know anything about him. Tell me what you know, thanks.
Maryland vs Temple kicks off the 1st game of the Orlando Invitational. Temple leads 16-7. Maryland is the favorite by 9, but my Temple Tough squad is my 2nd favorite team behind the Stags.

Maryland comes back to win 76-69.
Harvard leads Texas A&M 34-31 with about 12 minutes left.
Harvard wins in a slight upset 62-51 over Texas A&M. Harvard plays very solid basketball and does not make mistakes. They get off good shots, and have talent. Shows that Mid-Majors can beat the Big Schools on a Nuetral court.
Temple loses to Maryland in a game that Temple lead most of the day. Maryland looked very good today...... much better then when they played the Stags. Shows that the Stags played a good game. Lets get a win over USC.
