I have to say I am a bit surprised these are the first offers from Pitino. Woodrich and Ousmane are both MAAC+ talents but certainly not the 4* we suspected.
My guess is the cupboards are pretty bare for top talent this time of year and he will rely heavily on the transfer portal.

He has already offered a couple of JUCO's, and he had said he wasn't very interested in JUCOs.

And the transfer portal is growing exponentially by the day, therefore there obviously will be quite a large quantity of available stud players available to be recruited in the next couple of months. Maybe this is a reason that a kid like Woodrich might think twice about signing with Iona. Pitino would surely recruit over him in a minute if he had the chance.

Just saw that Alterique Gilbert is entering the transfer portal. I believe he was a 4star prospect out of high school, but several shoulder surgeries have kept him from ever looking like one at UConn. Not sure he would want to transfer to a mid-major, but he might be very effective in the MAAC. Would Pitino be interested in him?
As a matter of fact... Frenchy Tomlin, New Haven Register Connecticut Player Of The Year, 1987, out of Harding High in Bridgeport, played at Cleveland State before finishing at Rhode Island. Remember that one Nash?

To be honest I had forgotten all about Frenchy Tomlim or where he had gone to college until you brought this up. Now in checking back I do see that his performances, at least based on statistics, certainly didn't match his projected ability based on his high school career at Harding. And actually even before he became a President he was well-known to area basketball fans as I recall. Even as far back as 7th-8th grades he was getting notice as a 'legend' on the playgrounds in some quarters. Never quite lived up to his reputation partly I guess because he followed some former Harding players who did indeed become legends such as Wes Mathews, John Bagley and Charles Smith. But you bring back some great memories by bringing his name up here.
I remember a quote from someone a long time ago: "Ohio State cheats and Cleveland State goes on probation."
Big program usually gets a softer penalty, yes, but Cleveland State back in the late 80s-early 90s got penalized heavily (and fairly) for recruiting violations, one of them being the illegal recruitment of Manute Bol from Kevin Mackey, a coach who got in a lot more trouble from other things beside that one thing.

Cleveland State has brought in some excellent players the last 5-6 years. They just haven't been able to hold on to them.
Tyree Appleby - Florida Rasheem Dunn - St. John's Rob Edwards - Arizona State Bryn Forbes - Michigan State (now the San Antonio Spurs) Trey Lewis - L'ville Anton Grady - Wichita State
