A tale of two players. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
It is interesting to note that former Quinnipiac star Peter Kiss, who transferred to Rutgers, has played a total of just 13 minutes the entire season.
Just goes to show that not everyone who transfers to a high-major succeeds. A cautionary tale for the large number of players who now transfer on a whim.
Yeah... a few years ago Quinnipiac looked set to make an extended run with Dixon and Kiss as their back court. Can you imagine that team, last season, if they'd both stayed and Young had also developed?
Dixon is at Grand Canyon now, after things not working out at St. John's. He just started playing this semester and will have one more season left. I don't know if Kiss is injured or just can't get on the floor - but Rutgers is very good, so the later is possible. Who knows... maybe he's looking for a grad year return to the MAAC?
You never know with guys and transfers. Different people value different things and experiences. Sometimes the thing that doesn't work out the first year, works out the next. I don't know.

Kiss spent the previous two seasons with Jay Young. I think he'd be a perfect fit at Fairfield -- the 2G we are looking for. I like the idea of Kiss, Green and Tshiefu on the court next November.
Kiss could probably go higher than the MAAC. Bigger schools will take a flyer on him. But he needs to get it right, and we all know what he can do. Hopefully, there's a comfort level with Young and the MAAC. Fairfield should target him like there's no tomorrow.

Not only would Kiss be a perfect fit talent wise, but he is also an aggressive and rugged player. Perfect for the Jay Young system.
There appears to be a mutual agreement between Kiss and Pikiell. Not able to get quality minutes so he doesn't want garbage minutes. Relationship with Young and Dougher...this is a legitimate possibility.

What I remember about Kiss in the one year he played for Quinnipiac was exactly what you are talking about, he was indeed aggressive, rugged, and I would also add in the word tough, both physically and mentally as part of his makeup. Another thing I would say about him as the enemy of the Stags that season was that he was a pain in the ass so to speak. I remember specifically that he was probably the player who was the most responsible for the Bobcats beating us in Bridgeport, and if a long shot by him in the rematch up in Hamden had gone in it would have been him again who would have been the villain. I'd rather have him on our side as the pain in the ass to the opponents on a nightly basis!

Is that actually the reason he hasn't been playing or are you just speculating. Maybe he's been hurt?

Well you can always look back and speculate about what might have happened if players didn't leave, but more specifically in Quinnipiac's case, if the coach wasn't fired. Don't forget it was only probably because Tom Moore got let go that both Kiss and Dixon left. But also concerning the coaching change, regarding Young, for some reason he could hardly get off the bench under Moore's watch. Did he all of a sudden just go from a bench-warmer to an All-MAAC type player in one year? Coaching recognition could have played a big part there I'm sure. And BTW, again, if the change wasn't made I don't think Rich Kelly would have been a Bobcat. So you never know, but it looks like that extended run is a possibility even though maybe a year later with Kelly and his other back court mates that Baker Dunleavy has brought in to replace the guys that left. Funny how an opportunity based on an opening can lead to great careers for those that are ready to take advantage.
He's practicing and apparently being a good teammate, but there are just guys ahead of him. The fact that he hasn't been playing garbage time or walk-on time lends to the thought that there's an understanding, but that is just speculation.
Would that help him in some way? He's already used his transfer year - so if he were not injured - doesn't this still count as a year of eligibility whether he's sitting or playing garbage minutes?
