I do not think future enrollment predictions are the only driving element behind these type of expansion investments. Rather i believe the good economy , low inflation ( construction costs) combined with the ability of institutions to borrow money at very cheap interests rates are attractive to institutions making investments decisions now . SHU is positioning itself to be attractive to the reduced college age population. of the future. Also, Having Bobby Valentine as the face of SHU athletics may prove to be a very strategic decision.

SHU hockey is on a roll, they just won the Connecticut tournament at WBA by smashing Yale 6-2 and #17 Quinnipiac 4-1. I think the folks at SHU believe they can become a regional power in college hockey and needed a new ice rink to further bolster their profile. I know this is all in hindsight, but what if Fairfield had never dropped hockey, could we be a top 20 program right now like Quinnipiac and Yale have been?? O what could have been....sigh! Where is that Fairfield Prep parent?!?!
