It was suggested that we create a Recruiting Thread and Pin it to the top of this site. Lets try to put any future recruiting posts in this thread. Any recruit that we have already signed should certainly have his own thread.
He looks like a candidate for an LT replacement and competition for Whipple. He's taller/longer - probably a legit 6'6". He has a very quick and high release - not a ton of air under his feet. Not shy. I think he was 5-10 and 1-9 from 3p in the 2 games I watched. Given his height and shot, I don't think he'd have too much trouble getting shots off in the MAAC. He will comfortably shoot over guards. He looked good rotating the ball and making some passes. <-- His length helps with this, too. He attacked the basket a few times - but he's not going to walk in giving you much off the dribble. He isn't super quick and more than a few times he got switched on to a guard - pulled out to the 3p line and blown by.
There was talk from the announcers in one game about his coach saying he was the 'best high school shooter in the country' and no doubt the 1-9 game was uncharacteristic.

I think we still need 2 Multi-talented guards who can take it to the Hoop and kick-out, with step back jumpers and quickness and strength.
From Jay Young's Podcast........ "Jay Young prefers Big, Quick, Explosive Players that can cover. Toughness is more important than shooting"
JY is the opposite of S.J. who preferred shooters. I remember Syd saying about Taliaferro that he was amazed a shooter like Landon was still available after he made the trip to see him.

I like Shooters too. But if I can have a multi-talented explosive 2G that that can shoot 35% from the Arc and do all those other guard like things, then I would take that rather than a 40% shooter 3pt shooter.
... and if pigs could fly. What you want and what u can get often do not coincide. Agree , the guard(s) u describe are definitely the # 1 prioritization. However we can’t seem to recruit them to FF, so u tend to recruit the next best option which most of the time do not have all of the qualities mentioned.
I agree. I think JY is going to lean in the direction of longer more athletic players at all positions - but as we look towards the roster in 2021-2022, I think you'll see an exceptional shooter or two. If they think JW's length can help with rotating the ball and grabbing a few more rebounds - he may be seen as a better fit for the 'full' team than whatever is available as an attacking 2G this recruiting cycle.

I think a lights out shooter like a Shane Richards or Mike Evanowich is a key element to a successful team. I think the issue for Sydney was he tried to recruit 5 shooters. We were one dimensional. We never really had a player like Eze who could play with their back to the basket under Sydney nor did we have a stellar point guard who could create openings or create their own shot nor did we have any lock down defenders. We had a group of guys who could knock down the open look when they were open, and our only hope was to outscore the opponent.
Jay has a different approach. I have been really impressed with Jay's brand of defense but his offensive sets in my mind leave a whole lot to be desired. Maybe he lacks the players to do what he wants to do offensively but Cruz, Taliferro, Eze, kavialiaskas et al are not inept offensively so you think we could be getting better looks and scoring a little more.

Maybe not "inept" as a group, but certainly not overly talented, therefore I think that's one of the reasons why Jay has turned to a defensive first mentality as his mantra for this particular team. And in that vein, running through play options without taking the first maybe questionable shot available is his way of wanting the other team to play defense longer, the better to slow up their offense. Different from Sydney of course who with his shooters gave them the green light, sometimes too much without any thought of floor balance. As far as who we will be bringing in, of course we would like lights out shooters, but also we would like athletic play-makers who can defend and do a lot of other things. The problem is finding those guys, especially at this level. Recruiting the right guys and then coaching them up to expand their games will be crucial in the next couple of years. And if we are successful in those areas then better days will be in front of us.

JW? Do you mean AJ (Rose)?
Jayson Woodrich - potential recruit for 2020.
Replying to the point that what he appears to offer doesn't match the team's most pressing need for 2020-2021.

I think Jay is right to use a slow down offense. I agree with what he is doing. I do think we are not quite getting enough open looks and are getting too many shot clock violations. To be a top tier team, we have to get off good shots nearly every possession.
The team as a whole has to recognize when someone gets double teamed that someone else is open. If you review the game, there were 4-5 possessions where Eze or Cruz attracted 2-3 defenders yet did not see the wide open man outside for a kick-out. Rather, they tried to force something that wasn’t there. It’s just building more court awareness.
Monmouth showed a lot of fast passing around. They found a wide open man rather effortlessly in comparison. Good thing they had a off night shooting.
They started to lob into Maidoh which was great to see. He just needs to turn and shoot without bouncing the ball. Same with Methnani.
