I thought we were dead at halftime. Not sure why Roberts hoisted that 3 early in shot clock, but thank you. Big play by Taj.
That was an awful shot by Roberts, but he was hot, so he thought he could make it. Thankfully he didn't.
Great comeback. Sometimes you wonder how we can ever win a game, and then the guys pull it together. Did it last Friday against Marist and again tonight.
7-7 is better than expected. It would be awfully nice to take one from Siena on Sunday.

Thank goodness we played at Alumni Hall ... if we played at WBA .. we get blown out ...Our fans were great and helped the Players win.. the players got energy from them .. so congrats to the team and fans .. GREAT WIN !
Taj Benning is the most improved player on the team and has really been remarkably consistent all season.
I don't even want to think what our record would be without Taj. The kid can play and finally getting the minutes and leadership role he deserves with the new coaching regime. Great to see.

And the best player and the MVP to boot. Got to give Mitch credit because he was the main recruiter for Taj as I recall. And BTW 74, you and I were both WRONG in thinking the Stags were toast at halftime (and I couldn't be happier).

Well certainly he has almost always been clutch when we needed him to be. On more than one occasion he has made free throws when they absolutely had to be made, and of course this time it was that half-hook in the lane, a type of shot that reminded me a bit of one that Magic Johnson made in a key situation against the Celtics in a playoff game many, many years ago. Anyway I agree, it's great to see him get the minutes and leadership role he deserves from Jay Young, the benefit being nights like this when because of him as much as any other, the Stags were able to steal a "victory from the jaws of defeat."

Well actually it is 7-8 on the league, but yet when you look at the standings, a bunch of teams with 8 losses means the Stags really do have a punchers chance of finishing in the top 5 and avoiding the PIG if they can somehow keep winning more games. And in that regard, yes defeating Siena on Sunday would be HUGE!
Let's give Kavalauskus credit. His play in the last one or two minutes was vital. Without him and Taliafero's three, we lose this game.
Yeah I like the fact that Aidas on two occasions didn't hesitate in taking the ball to the basket before the defense could set up when he had it in the open court. Yes Landon too really stepped up big late even though he had been struggling for a long time. When you win you can always say that everyone who was involved did something positive to make a difference, and in this case the group of those two combined of course with Benning, Eze, Cruz and AJR all made winning plays at one time or another, something that seemed highly unlikely for a long time considering how poorly everyone had been playing in the first half. A game that makes you want to believe, that's for sure.

Final thought on this win and the general theme of how this season has gone, this victory now marks the 4th this year where the Stags would have lost if the opponent's shot in the last seconds had gone in! A lot of luck is involved, that's for sure, but for a team that has to work so hard for wins, this seems like poetic justice for the players and coaches. Hard on the heart though.
"We need to come out and play better early," Head Coach Jay Young said. "You can't keep digging yourself holes and tonight it was on both ends. It was more our defense than our offense in the first half and we didn't keep guys in front of us for whatever reason. They have really good guards who can go by you and make plays which they did."
Still trailing at 60-56 with 1:03 remaining, the Stags used long-range shooting to make their final run with Taliaferro hitting a shot well beyond the three-point arc to bring Fairfield within a point at 60-59.
"The play was an option for Landon to shoot the three or dump the ball inside if he didn't like the look," Coach Young said. "He saw a little space and let it fly. As I have said all along, shooters have to have short memories and he hasn't made many lately. But he just kept working and tonight he made the shot in a big moment for us."

Well said doc and spot on. During the ESPN3 broadcast, Bob Huessler and Andrew Leone (who played in Alumni Hall) said that Alumni Hall is like a 6th man that gives energy that the Stags feed off. You could hear the crowd noise on ESPN3 last night in the second half when the Stags came back from 17 down and outscored Niagara 38/22 and especially in the last minutes at the end of the game. Last night's game on campus did not look, sound or feel like a mostly empty neutral court in downtown Bridgeport.
