Study: Government determines that students who play basketball on college teams are Basketball players
An extensive 2-year study revealed that students who play basketball at the NCAA Division I level are indeed basketball players. In fact many such individuals have a history of playing basketball or being basketball players at the AAU or high school level prior to attending college. Research had shown what appeared to be exceptions to this rule; that some NCAA Division I athletes do not actively engage in playing basketball despite being on basketball teams and that other non scholarship students might actually play basketball. But regardless of these other circumstances, following this study, it is now the official position of the US Department of Education that Division I athletes on Basketball scholarship are in fact, basketball players regardless of whether or not they actually play basketball. Hopefully any confusion that may have existed regarding this matter has been cleared up as a result of this study. A future study is planned by the Dept of Education to determine if coaches are in fact coaches, and there is hope that study might help MAAC fans to finally answer the question that has nagged many for some time – was Jimmy Patsos really a coach?
