Just watched the end of the Rutgers game. They beat Purdue and should have an NCAA bid locked up. Barring a tragedy of some sort, it will be the first time Rutgers has been to the tourney in 29 years.
Their fans are overjoyed. I hope that we can experience this at some point in the not too distant future. It's been a long time for Fairfield fans too.
As a Rutgers grad too, I am enjoying their season, especially given that they play a similar system to the Stags (which makes sense due to the Jay Young connection) and their long-standing futility.
But Rutgers' success brings only a fraction of the joy that a Stags bid would bring. Let's get it done soon. None of us are getting any younger!

There is one big noticeable difference in systems though, that being Rutgers has a guy who in clutch time they can give the ball to and more often than not he is going to make winning plays. That's exactly what happened in that game today as I'm sure you witnessed as Geo Baker took over and dominated down the stretch. That's the type of guy the Stags somehow have to get in order to really take off.

Nash, I agree. The Rutgers team building has been a several year project. They started with defense and then eventually were able to bring in players who played defense and could make plays too. Baker is one. Ron Harper Jr. is a scorer too. The kid Young is lightning fast, and they've got a solid center in Myles Johnson who, by the way, is majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Note the video towards the bottom of his bio page. You might recognize someone.

Jay Young plays an important part of getting to the NCAA Tourney or even getting the MAAC Tourney.
But the most important part of making this happen is that we have to have a collection of Quality All League guards, like a Geo Baker.....who is quick explosive and a playmaker. We just have to be committed to get these type of players and players like Iona has been able to get.. So far we have a Caleb Green that could be one of those guys, but we need more and more of that because we are not always going to get those type of players.
Jay Young has to find us our Geo Bakers. Recruit 5 players and maybe 2 or 3 will become an explosive playmaker.

Vastagman... as a follower of Rutgers hoops, can you shed some light on what's up with Peter Kiss – he who some of this board hope will consider the Stags when he moves along next season? Was he injured or was the Scarlet Knight's talent level just too deep, as he rarely appeared in games for RU this year. He sure gave the Stags fits during his tenure at QU, and I thought he would be a solid contributor to the RU program.
Yes, yes and yes! WE need athletes/basketball players. We have not been getting All-MAAC level recruits for several years now, except Nelson and Alvarez. JY can coach the hell out of this group and grind out every game - it will not lead to long term success.

I don't follow Rutgers anywhere near as closely as I do Fairfield, so I'm not really sure of the answer. My impression is that Kiss has been healthy, but he simply is too far down the depth-chart to get much playing time. In hindsight, it's a shame because he was a solid MAAC player. Looks like he simply shot too high and/or his timing/location was off.
Here is a link to an old discussion Rutgers fans had about Kiss.
I wonder if it would be discreet to have Kiss join the program with only one year of eligibility. By the time he adapts to the system, his career will be over. Also there may be others available who would have the potential to make a greater impact.

A fair point. But I don’t doubt Kiss, Chef and Green change the game for us. Don’t know anything but I think we will add him.
