Kudos to Joe Frager, his staff and the team for their 2019-20 season. Despite a (1-4) start to the season and being picked #6 in the 2019-20 Preseason Coaches Poll, the Stags finished as the #3 seed in the MAAC Championship at (16-14)(12-8) and advanced to the Semifinal Round against #2 Marist before the tourament was cancelled.
The team finished the season (10-4) at home with wins over Marist and Quinnipiac and a two point overtime loss at BIG EAST St. John's. The Stag Defense was #2 (58.0 ppg) in the MAAC just behind Monmouth (57.5 ppg).
Last season the team was (11-20)(7-11) and (5-7) at home and were swept by Marist and Quinnipiac in the regular season. As the #9 seed in the 2019 MAAC Championship, the Stags lost 48-63 in the Quarterfinal Round to Quinnipiac.
Joe Frager's record at Fairfield is now (229-179)(.561) after 13 years as the head coach. During his 13 years, he has led the Stags to 229 victories and a top-half finish in the conference 12 times, just one of 16 teams in the country to have finished in the top-five every year during that span. The Stags have finished in the top-3 in the MAAC in nine of those seasons. Frager is the only coach in MAAC history to post 11-straight winning seasons in the MAAC to begin a career.
