wow, now that is interesting. Sounds to me if he is looking upward and outside of a mid-major conference opportunity. If he gets a better option he will go, if not he remains a Bobcat. It certainly is a new college basketball landscape out there that us traditionist are not use too. I think the new transfer rule will be a very slippery slope.

It depends on whether the NCAA allows all players to transfer without sitting for a year. If so, he could move on to a higher level. If not, he'll be back at Q. I don't see him sitting a year to play one.
As much as I would like to decimate Quinnipiac, I would advise the kid to stay put. He'll be one of Q's all-time greats.
I guess... just have to look at things differently.
If every kid wants to be a "free agent" after every season - I'd imagine schools will become more and more inclined to treat them just as such. And, as fans, we just have to expect it.
* Maybe I'm not phrasing it correctly with "wants" - the kids aren't driving this. But - effectively - coaches will have to adjust or they will fall behind competitively and I'd think that will make it more and more likely for some kids to feel a negative impact in terms of scholarships pulled.

That NCAA ruling was supposed to happen right around April 1st. Given the situation now I don't imagine it will be happening for quite a while until things start to get back to normal. Therefore maybe the whole idea will be put on hold for a year. If so then yes he probably will come back to the Bobcats as you state. Anyway I'm glad he left open the possibility of that from his tweet. Absolutely one of the best ever there if he returns.
The new transfer regulation is in reality not a new rule. Rather it is a proposal to waive the existing transfer rule requiring a student athlete to sit out one year. The "Divison 1 Council " created a sub-committee called the "Transfer waiver working group" to propose a waiver that will stream line the transfer process. The working group goal is to have the waiver process in place for the 2020/2021 academic year. The proposed waiver has been finalized. The working group would change waiver criteria to allow approvals for one-time four-year transfers in all sports to compete immediately if they: -Receive a transfer release from their previous school. -Leave their previous school academically eligible. -Maintain their academic progress at the new school. -Leave under no disciplinary suspension.
The waiver criteria will be brought to the Div. 1 council for action (approval?) during the councils regular April meeting. The composition of the the Div 1 council is listed below. Mr Paul schlickman our AD is a member of the council and will serve a term on the council ending in June 2022.
Composition: The NCAA Division I Board of Directors shall appoint a Council comprised of 40 members, including a representative from each of the 32 Division I conferences, four commissioners, two student-athletes and two faculty athletics representatives. The representatives from the 32 conferences shall be comprised of athletics administrators (e.g., athletics directors, senior woman administrators, conference administrators, compliance administrators and other senior level administrators) and faculty athletics representatives. At least 60 percent of the 32 conference representatives shall be athletics directors and an athletics director shall serve as chair for a period of not more than two years. The chair shall not be eligible for immediate re-election to that position and at least once in every three chair rotations, a Football Championship Subdivision or Division I Subdivision representative shall serve as chair.
As I said below, I think we need to be aggressive in going after Rich Kelly. Bring in some other All League players from other schools, and Kelly might be able to see the light of a Championship this year. We must be very aggressive and have a can do attitude.
"Would like to see the Stags make a positive move to get Rich Kelly to Transfer to Fairfield. If the new Transfer rule goes into effect this year. Rich Kelly could be playing back in his hometown with a degree from Fairfield"

I think Rich Kelly is an excellent mid-major player. That said, he sits on the bench at a big time program. So why is he entering the portal?
With the other Quinny players leaving, yes they will be struggling next season, but he will be one of all time greats at QU if he graduates.
And, let's get real. Seriously, come to FU? Give up being one of the best Quinny players ever, to play in the same dog crap conference in front of the same 1000 fans in a much more cavernous off campus arena. Really?
But quite honestly, if the other top QU players transfer, he might be looking for a team that has a better post season shot or a college that offers a post grad major that better fits his needs. That makes sense if he goes as a grad student.
Just wondering what these guys are looking for in their senior year.

Well given the nature of the make-up of basketball squads, it could just be one player that is better than another that could make life miserable for anyone who thinks they will be the main man at a certain position. Therefore Rich has to be careful where he goes if he does indeed elect to go somewhere else. As far as transferring to Fairfield, sure from our standpoint he would help the team greatly. But like you say, I believe he would be looking to move to a better conference. Only thing I could think of that would possibly get him here is the chance to play with his brother. But that's highly unlikely anyway considering he would probably have to split up some of the minutes to Caleb Green unless Jay could play them together. It's interesting to think about as obviously the Stags desperately need good guards, but realistically it's highly unlikely this would happen IMO.

Well if this new rule is approved it totally changes the game. A coach that yells at his players, or isn't like-able may lose players. Schools that have a reputation for winning like Iona might be able to grab all the best players in a conference essentially recruiting from their competition. Does anyone think Pitino would not be up for doing that?
It would be interesting if Kiss and Kelly two ex-bobcats ended up at Fairfield, and while the thought of uniting them at Fairfield would be attractive to Stags fans, I think they actually never played together at Quinnipiac. Its a sad statement about our recruiting that we might be after two guys quinnipiac got and we didn't.
why would we want 2 combo guards on the floor at the same time, that can pass, drive to the hoop and score, hit the 3, and be game changers, that would be silly - -
