IMO, you don't build a program by adding one year rentals. You go out, sell the University along with the new building and bring in some 4 year studs.
Four year studs will become the “old model” very soon. When the immediate transfer rule is approved most likely next month all good players really be only a one year rental. They can easily transfer out. I wonder why Jalen Pickett up at Siena has not announced he wants to transfer out to a better conference?

This makes sense given the other possible schools listed. Not sure of the specific situation regarding their roster, but BC as a recent bottom-feeder in the ACC might certainly offer one thing Rich would not want to give up, namely a lot of playing time. So I hope it works out well for him, and if we do indeed play BC in Bridgeport this season, that would be another game (along with Iona) where the Stags might have a pretty well-attended contest to help bring in a little more money than usual. Also helps that his family, particularly his dad who I saw at many of his games (not to mention a lot of Stag contests) should be able to see him in person quite a bit.

Boston College just graduated their starting PG, Derryck Thornton, so there is an opening for a PG like Rich Kelly. So he could get decent minutes.
I like Rich Kelly's game a lot. He has been a better mid-level D1 player than I expected. But as a Florida State booster (my wife is an alumna of FSU), I watch a lot of ACC basketball throughout the season. He is not an ACC caliber guard. No doubt BC is a bottom tier ACC basketball school, with opportunities for Rich to get some playing time. But he will need to be a consistent 3 point sniper, because he will be going against a lot of very quick and long and athletic guards, and will not find getting into the lane as easy as it was in the MAAC.
Scout’s take: “High-IQ point guard with great vision and deep range. Really good playing off ball screens.”
And this is the guy that some on this board did not think was a D1 prospect when he was at Prep?
A lot of people with significantly more credentials than anyone on this board weren't very high on Kelly. FWIW, Kelly's VerbalCommits offers include more D2 schools than D1. And NERR had him #17 in its CT class of 2017, behind #16 CJ Seaforth who was recruited to Iona by Tim Cluess, who has done a pretty good job recruiting, I think we can agree. Seaforth did nothing in his one year at Iona and is now playing D2 ball.

Most Mid-Major players that transfer up to High Major are not going to get starter minutes. And I read that only about 10% of those Mid Major players will average more that 10ppg. Kelly might have a chance to do that, because Boston College is not really an ACC caliber team.
If Quinnipiac had a realistic chance of getting to the top 4 of the MAAC, I think he would have stayed.

Well I guess that's why we don't get paid the big bucks regarding basketball decisions. But truth is, and this has been documented on the NERR website, Rich didn't actually receive his first offer until well after he left Prep. It was actually February of the next year when he was playing for Cheshire Academy when that happened. For reference, if you check an archived article dated February 16th, 2017 you will see that (according to the article), Rich Kelly just picked up his first D-1 offer from Marist, that to go along with several D-11 offers. So I guess if the college coaches who should know better can be stupid, we can also be stupid, right? No actually Rich is one of those guys who has really exceeded all expectations and is reaping the benefits. So congratulations to him, especially since he is also graduating from Quinnipiac in three years therefore making him eligible to play right away at Boston College even if the recruiting rules are not changed this spring.
