Silly and meaningless but harmless. If it makes them feel better, so be it.
Hey, if there is a specific MAAC rule that addresses it, it is the right thing to do.
They were the clear first place team and under the circumstances they are the league champion. A credit to a well played season.
Like any tournament or playoff structure, teams that play the best in the long season often get penalized because they hit a cold patch at a point in time.
I think its good there was a clear rule on this and they anticipated that the tournament might not be completed.
Yes it will have an asterisk, but so goes sports. Congrats to the Saints and Coach Carm on an excellent season.
No problem calling them MAAC champions. They finished first during the regular season. Siena should raise that banner.
But they did not win the tournament, so calling them tournament champs seems a bit silly.
I am impressed the conference bylaws actually had a contingency for a situation where the MAAC tournament might not finish. I suspect they were thinking of a weather event, but with the assumption that a few days later, someone would need to go the NCAA tournament. That is not what happened here.
Saying that Siena got the bid to the NCAA tourney, when there was no NCAA tourney, also seems a bit silly.

Agree, that type of foresight for this league seems unfathomable and is what surprised me the most. They must have had other D1 team charters or an NCAA guideline as a template.
Yes, probably should just be 2020 MAAC Champions. Either way, they won the conference.

I guess I should feel honored. This "expert" basically took my post and reposted it as his own.

Yeah you and the "expert" think alike. (Is that grounds to sue him for plagiarism BTW?) Anyway, while I have thought all along that because they came in 1st place in the regular season they certainly deserve to be regarded as league champions with no reservation, actually a concurrent thought has come to mind that would have clouded the picture morally IF a certain something had happened. For imagine if the Saints had lost their opening round game to Manhattan in the tournament. In that case I think it would certainly be hard for them to equate the term champion while at the same time losing to a 9th seeded team in the tourney. But fortunately for them and everyone involved that didn't happen.
