Recently this overseas power forward has been mentioned again as looking at Fairfield. First contacted during his junior year by former Fairfield Coach Thomas Parrotta, this recruit had a lot of interest in Fairfield, and apparently Jay Young has continued contact with him. A source close to the Fairfield program says Young is excited about the possibility of getting Blu Ming, who he feels is an under the radar candidate who is just coming into his own.
Blu Ming
Recruiting Profile:
Player: Ming, Blu (alternatively written as “Bru”)
Rating: unrated
Hometown: Hoo Dare, China
Position: Power Forward
Height: 6’7” (Blu is a young player who many feel still has the potential to grow)
Weight: 200 lbs
Considering: Sacramento State, San Diego, Manhattan College, Fairfield College, California Baptist among others
2020 Recruit
Blu Ming is a Chinese national who is the son of a cousin of former NBA all-star Yao Ming. To some extent Ming is being recruited based on his potential as he has not played against the kind of competition faced by most American players. He has decent size and is a capable offensive player.
Ming is currently being recruited by several mid-major programs including Sacramento State, San Diego, Manhattan, Fairfield and California Baptist. He has not indicated a preference for any one school, but Ming has said that he hopes to play on the coast near New York City or Los Angeles. Some trepidation surrounds the recruiting of Mr. Ming as there is some question whether or not he will be cleared to play in the US next season. Given the current situation with the Wuhan virus, there are even questions if he will make it into the United States prior to the start of the upcoming NCAA basketball season. Still the upside potential of a player like Ming is unlimited so someone is bound to take a chance on him.
Already standing at over 200 centimeters (6’7’’), Blu towers over many of his high school competitors. While he lacks the size of his second cousin Yao, he is only 17 and many feel he will add a few inches before he enters college. Despite lacking the height of Yao, there are many similarities between these two players. Among these amazing similarities is that they both come from the Wuhan region of China, both have ridden in a rickshaw and both own a set of silver chopsticks. More amazingly, despite the fact that both are right handed, they use left-handed chop sticks.
By all reports Blu is a team player and his teammates all seem to have nothing but great things to say about him. Point Guard Pa Sing had this to say about Blu, “If there’s one thing Ming is good at, it is dribbling and shooting.” “Blu always seems to be in the right place at the right time.” according to teammate Watt Tai Ming. “I think Blu Ming, is as tough as nails, and he has played through leg injuries many times,” stated Lim Ping. “Blu is always willing to take a shot,” accordingly to long time teammate, Wai Yu Shu Ting.
When asked if he was close to a decision for next year, Blu had this to say, "读写汉字 - 学中文 ." Many consider Ming to be one of the most articulate players entering the college game.
Its no wonder the folks at Fairfield are excited about the prospect of getting Ming. Here’s what former Fairfield Stags Coach Sydney Johnson said last year about Ming, “His potential aligns with a 4 star recruit like Malcom Gilbert, and for this reason, you can understand why we are after him.”
Ming is expected to make a decision soon.
Enjoy today and every day......
