I wanted to start a separate thread on Transfers (not just the Methnani thread). Another interesting name announced he's leaving today. Played HS ball in CT. He would have to sit I believe:
Also Coach Young started to follow Makhtar Gueye so hopefully we are putting on the full court press! I hear he can play next year.
At 3-29 losing 8 players is not necessarily a bad thing.
Understood, but they did lose three of their top four scorers. Pridgen appeared to be a very good player. 17+ as a freshman, with 56% shooting, plus nearly 7 rpg is impressive.

They might be worse than 3-29 next season.
Well if they are I certainly hope we are not one of their victims if we play them in Bridgeport this coming year, something I think is going to happen if the season does indeed play out. Remember, in last year's game they had a shot to beat us at the buzzer. Thank god that one didn't go in! But regarding the Crusaders I must say I was surprised at how little of an opportunity Joey Riley, formerly of East Catholic, got to perform. I certainly thought he had a chance to be a good college player. Maybe these departures will give him the opportunity he needs to step up and prove himself. Be interesting to watch how this plays out.

It's funny to me how the perception of what contributions a college freshman is likely to make during his first year have changed in the last 5 years or so. Apparently people have decided that since Kentucky and Duke are able to be very successful by bringing in the most talented prep players, then all prep players should be major contributors in their first year of college ball. I never saw Reilly play nor am I familiar with his build so I don't know if it's surprising or not that he got little opportunity for Holy Cross last season. But it wouldn't surprise me at all if he turns out to be a major contributor for Holy Cross or another program in the years ahead. I think our Benning is an example of someone who got limited minutes his freshman year but has improved significantly each year and was a major contributor on last season's team. Hopefully we'll have a college season this winter and we can see if Reilly gets more opportunity and what he does with that opportunity, if his head coach believes Reilly could have a beneficial effect on the team's play. Or Reilly might turn out to be like Tom Nolan, whom I believe some on this board have stated that they thought when they saw Nolan and Rich Kelley play for Prep -- they thought Nolan would have the more successful college career.
URI has lost 10 players over the last two seasons, and four players this year. Including leading scorer Jacob Toppin jettisoning to Kentucky. Yes coaching changes play into it, but it almost seems like this is becoming a fantasy draft for high major schools.

I see that Dr. Fauci is a Holy Cross grad. They should use him as part of a recruiting video! 😉
Dr. Anthony Fauci has faced stiff competition before. During his senior year at Regis High School in New York, "Fauch," as he was called then, was the captain of his high school basketball team. As the Wall Street Journal reported, the Regis team took a subway from Manhattan to the Bronx in 1958 for a game against rival Fordham Prep. Regis had only one win in 17 games and Fordham Prep had easily won the teams' first matchup a few weeks prior.
“Nobody gave us a chance,” Regis alum John Zeman told the WSJ. “Everyone figured it was going to be a blowout.”
To make matters worse, Fordham Prep was led by Donnie Walsh, an all-city guard who went on to play collegiately at North Carolina, coach the Nuggets and run the Pacers and Knicks in the NBA. The 62 years since have muddied the details of the game but nobody on Regis has forgotten the result: a 64-51 victory for the Tony Fauci-led team....
Moving Makhtar Gueye info here. Somewhat narrowed to top 5 (pending any new offers). Newest offer is BC which he played HS Freshman Year on Mass Rivals AAU team, so some personal ties to the area.
I hope Jay can close the deal even if he cannot play next year (Scoopman mentioned he would have to sit if the new rule is not passed next month). Everything about this kid translates to next level as well. Would carry the Fairfield name well beyond his one year with the Stags similar to Rakim Sanders.

I agree with you 13, this guy would be a good get for Fairfield. Just to be fair though, I don't think he is on the level of where Sanders was. Actually Rakim as a 3 star recruit so many years ago at BC was a main player for the Eagles right from the start, and that was on a pretty good team. Indeed it was the Cooley connection that got him here in the first place, theoretically explaining why he would be willing to step down in class to play at the mid-major level. Gueye hasn't proven himself nearly as much at UAB. But that's not saying he couldn't have a positive effect here. So I hope we get him.
BTW concerning which way the NCAA will go with the new proposal, I think I read something yesterday that suggested they still are on the fence with what they will do, so much so that rather than doing it immediately and rather than waiting a whole year, they may get the new process going at the start of the new semester next winter. All very confusing for everyone, especially for the Stags considering how it would effect the availability of Wojcik for the coming season.

Gueye looking for a team that plays fast. That is not the Stags, at least not last season. Perhaps that will change with better offensive players agreeing to play for FF.
