1968stags said, Naples, I think you may spent too much time in the sun😀 looking at the map for travel if we were in the patriot League would most likely be much worse than the MAAC. in the MAAC the only long trip is the Buffalo/Niagara trip and even then one trip hits both schools.
Also, I am generally amused by some so-called fans on the board who like to knock other schools both in the MAAC and other leagues most if not all have significantly longer histories and successes in basketball than FU. Canisius and Niagara are favorite whipping boys to some but have had a lot of success over the years and have actually had players not suit up for an NBA team but be star players.
Finally, when thinking of travel time etc put yourself in the shoes of Canisius or Niagara vis-a-vis other members of the MACC. Fairfield fans should not complain.
For the "so called fans" and cartographers:
Fairfield to Boston U - 158 miles Fairfield to Holy Cross 125 miles Fairfield to Army - 68 miles
Fairfield to Colgate - 240 miles Fairfield to Bucknell - 230 miles Fairfield to Lehigh - 140 miles Fairfield to Lafayette - 130 miles Fairfield to Loyola - 247 miles Fairfield to Navy - 273 miles Fairfield to American - 285 miles
Niagara has been to 3 NCAA Tournaments (1970, 2005, 2007) and Canisius has been to 4 NCAA Tournaments (1955, 1956, 1957, 1996). Fairfield has been to 6 NCAA Tournaments (D1-1986, 1987, 1997)(DII-1960, 1961, 1962).
73 why don’t you overlay if you the distances from FU to all their rivals in the MAAC.
For could measure how about the distances for FU to teams in the CAA, another league some are so hot to move to.
Feel free to do that with Fairfield and the CAA but I did that already for Fairfield in the MAAC on Page 2 of this post but here it is again.
Fairfield to Niagara - 444 miles Fairfield to Canisius -425 miles
Fairfield to Siena - 145 miles Fairfield to Monmouth - 125 miles Fairfield to Rider - 115 miles
Fairfield to Marist - 80 miles Fairfield to St. Peter's - 65 miles Fairfield to Manhattan - 50 miles Fairfield to Iona - 40 miles Fairfield to Quinnipiac - 35 miles
Tom, sorry must of had a senior moment, but the data show in general in the MAAC except for one trip a year to Buffalo/Niagara the travel times for Patriot League games would be longer.
NJIT, ranked 268 by Forbes, would have been number 4, academically, in the MAAC, behind Fairfield, Marist, and Manhattan. Instead, Ensor goes after Robert Morris, a school not in the Top 600. Great job.

Aren't they going to the Horizon per the above? I agree Ensor's moves for the MAAC are always a head scratcher, which is why CAA or Patriot are a better home for us.
Agree,NJIT is a good school academically. Must be a major relief for the NJIT travel budget, not travelling to the far away A-Sun schools. However in Ensors defense we already have three MAAC school in Jersey so perhaps a fourth was to much? Additionally, perhaps the MAAC was trying to establish a market presence in other a major cities like Pittsburg. I would be looking to establish the MAAC in another major market outside of the tri-state by looking for members from Boston or Philly to join the MAAC.

Incredible job by NJIT building up a program from 0-29 in 2008 to getting into the American East. I know it's not the strongest conference out there but they've come a long way in 12 years. We know how much can change over that time looking at the state of our program.
