Yes they are. And those who rely on them without examining all the facts can be duped. Let’s look at a more recent, more relevant sampling: FACT CHECK: Head to head last 7 seasons. St Petrr’s 11. Fairfield 5 That’s beating us “fairly routinely”.
Appreciating your desire to examine the facts so that they are not unfairly spun a certain way ( ), below is our season-by-season record against St. Peter's based on the 13 years for which our schedule is easily accessible on the FF web site, starting with 19/20 at the top, and going to 07/08 at the bottom. The all-time record is 60-58 in favor of SPU. People can decide for themselves whether or not SPU has been beating FF "fairly routinely".

True. It’s fun to spin the facts to support your position. I winged it and it turns out I have, at least a good argument😁. I will stand by my opinion that SPU has a legit MAAC program. What they’ve been able to accomplish with their limited resources is inspirational to me. That’s way more relevant, to me, than a sub par gym and lesser academic credentials. That’s my opinion. Reasonable minds can disagree, but let’s not be insensitive and elitist
Great to see an influential alumni step up for their Alma mater especially at SPU. Agree that $5M is lipstick on a pig but better than nothing and Yanitelli is need of the greatest amount of investment in the conference. Perhaps even more impressive is the selflessness of the donation not being tied to naming rights but rather in honor of a great team that he was a part of.
SPU is on shaky ground in many respects. Happy to see some alums step up to keep it relevant.

Just like many fans who have walked from Journal Square to the Harvard on the Boulevard, I was stunned by the rendering which basically looks the same high school gym but with a $5 million paint job. I hope they keep the chlorine smell as you walk in for nostalgia's sake. Just wouldn't be the same.
It continues to surprise me how expensive construction work really is for what you get. SPU renovation at $ 5m is just another example . This brings me to another thought. How is FF going to pull off tearing down the existing alumni hall and re-building it for the proposed $40-45m? No way! Either St. Pete’s construction is overstated or FF has grossly underestimated the convocation costs?

I totally agree on the construction costs. Does anyone know the status of the new Alumni Hall? I was under the impression they had already signed a contract and that's why groundbreaking would be in spring. If not, does that mean we can take advantage to try and negotiate better prices now, if we still have the money to do so? Fairfield seems to be in a really good financial position unlike a lot of other schools, or does the fact that we didn't begin construction a sign otherwise? Was the committed/pledged capital not able to be raised? The silence is deafening.

Sacred Heart University will build a nearly 4,000-capacity, $60 million hockey and skating arena on its West Campus in Fairfield, according to a press release from the University.....
The cost for the Fairfield Convocation Center is $15 million less than the SHU Hockey Rink? Somebody's numbers aren't correct.

Not really. All depends on the total sq. footage and options beyond just the arena. Also, I'd guess a hockey rink is more expensive than a basketball floor. (A Zamboni Model 552 $160,000, Dust Mop, $24.99 )
In speaking to FU officials in the fall, there was a $45 million plan and a $60 million plan. The difference was addition of offices, workout facilities and other options that would conveniently keep all support functions in the same building.

Just looking at pure square footage alone, a Hockey arena is 17,000 square feet as compared to 4,700 square feet for Basketball.... thats a lot. Just for Basketball, Vball, and Convocation, the 45 million seemed right. The extra 15 million was for the Cadillac version
Interesting cost opinions and all well and good but how about actually hearing something "official" from the University? How hard is it to give an update on demo and starting the construction?

Harbor Yard was built not that long ago, according to the Hartford Courant the original projected costs of the arena were 35M, but with overuns the cost was closer to $45M. Later modifications and a new door for monster trucks added more than another $5M.
That was 20 years ago but Harbor hard has 4 times the seating capacity and square footage. I don't think inflation has been 400% over 20 years. So you would think a project like this could easily be done at the stated pricepoint.
That said, how many people expect cost overruns due to mismanagement? I know I do.....
Webster Bank Arena Capacity - Concerts: 10,000 Basketball - up to 9,000 Construction Broke ground - October 19, 1999 Opened October 10, 2001 Construction cost - $56,278,684 ($81.3 million in 2019 dollars) Architect - BBB Architects, Ltd, Kasper Group Inc. Structural engineer - BVH Integrated Services, Inc. General contractor - CR Klewin, Inc.
I think I read somewhere the new convocation center would be 80,000 sq feet . The proposed budget is $45M. That would equal a budget of $563 per sq foot. For reference purposes a standard, 2500-3000 sq ft four bed room, three bath colonial home in the northeast cost on average $162 sq ft to construct with a median sq ft construction cost of $148 sq ft. I recognize the requirements for residential construction and a commercial type building are vastly different.
