Apparently the Sacred Heart video of their mascot chasing someone in a “deer onesie” has gotten under the skin of Kyle and Jack, who declare trashtalking war on Sacred Heart prior to our game on Saturday in their latest episode. Additionally, they’re encouraging their fellow students to get tickets to the game to support the team that night. Some passion for the team from our students would go a long way IMHO in helping us maintain our record of beating Sacred Heart every time we’ve played them.
Perhaps the FF students will turn out and support the team. I was actually surprised there were several bus loads of students at the stags home opener vs ME. Of course true to form most students left the arena at half time after collecting t-shirts during the t-shirt toss. Actually , I can’t blame them because the ME game was joke, I left early myself.
One comment in the podcast that I think was spot on is we seem to play to the level of our competition (excepting Medgar Evers of course). We play well against good teams and then down to the level of teams with less talented rosters than ours. We need to bring it every game, whether we’re facing Iona or Holy Cross. I realize with the number of guys on the roster, it’s not going to be an easy task to develop substitution patterns which work seamlessly but for us to have the kind of year we’d like to have —— we need to have 40 minutes of excellent play. We need to develop a killer instinct, not be satisfied with an early lead but rather look to turn that early lead into a larger lead. I’m hoping that’s what happens in our games this weekend.

I agree, what you have outlined is what a good basketball teams should do. However, for the last 30 plus years the stags teams generally cannot accomplish what you have outlined on a consistent basis. That is why the stags have been perennial losers.
