 Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse plays its first "return game" of the 2021 CAA slate with a Friday matinee at #12 nationally-ranked Delaware. Opening faceoff is slated for Noon with Travis Eldridge and Greg Gurenlian calling the action live on the Lax Sports Network.The Stags are (2-4) on the season and seeking their first CAA win of the campaign and Delaware is (6-1)(3-0 CAA). Fairfield and Delaware previously met on March 6 at Rafferty Stadium, with the Blue Hens taking a 17-9 decision. Following Friday's game in Delaware, the Stags will complete their first set of consecutive road games with a trek down to Towson on April 10. The Tigers (3-5)(0-2 CAA) will visit Hofstra this Saturday before hosting Fairfield one week later. Action returns to Rafferty Stadium for the final two home games of the Spring against Drexel on April 17 and UMass on April 24. I know the program has had some adversity this year, including covid limiting practice time, starting the
season weeks later than many other teams and some tough injuries, including last years starting goalie, Reda, Bryce Ford, etc.
But allowing Delaware to go on a 11-1 run in the second half is totally unacceptable.

Ouch, 0-4 in the CAA. FF is not competitive. Millions of dollars spent on a stadium and a new coaching staff with very poor results.,

Maybe a chance for 1or 2 “W’s “ against Towson and Drexel who are next and not as strong CAA teams. If the stags cannot pull out a victory against those teams they are most likely on their way to being w/o a victory in the CAA. After Towson and Drexel the stags are scheduled against UMass and Hofstra who are very good teams.

Why can’t we ever reach our potential? What’s really the cause of our struggles? Not close enough to the program to be able to answer that so appreciate any insight. |

There have been some key injuries to a starting attack man, goalie and a very good midfielder that have been impactful. From what can determine the lack of competitiveness is rooted in a porous defense (goalie, standing defense and mid- fielder defense). The stags can score but cannot keep anyone in the CAA out of their goal.
If defense does not improve significantly then the stags will fulfill the preseason coaches poll and finish last. Ugh!

Actually, in watching the games on-line, I will say the frosh goalie Consoli (sp?) has been overall pretty good.
As of yesterday, I believe he was second in the nation with more than 100 saves already this season!

Fairfield is #1 in the CAA with 102 saves and #6 in the NCAA with 14.57 saves per game.

It only year 2 of the Baxter era during a very difficult time in human history. So I will give him the benefit of the doubt and more time to bring in a full cycle of his recruits. But he and his staff need to start bringing in some difference-makers on the defensive side. This year is such a shame given our talent on the offensive side.
