Academics often discount the exposure that athletics brings to their schools. IMO it should be viewed as marketing/athletics budget.

Academics often discount the exposure that athletics brings to their schools. IMO it should be viewed as marketing/athletics budget. Well I see this news has already been brought up over on the basketball board. Yeah, you're right, and in speaking of that, considering the struggles of the basketball program over the years but now finally producing an NCAA appearance and the residual publicity for Hartford, isn't this the WORST time ever for this to even be a consideration? I've got to wonder if, just by the release of this study, whether anything comes of it or not, if the program and team will take a big hit as far as recruiting and maybe kids leaving early. And will John Gallagher, certainly a true believer and optimist, consider leaving for a more stable situation?

In reading the quotes, I understand it when the university president says that most D-1 schools lose money. But what I don't understand and have to question is his quote stating that "we didn't get a cent from (making) the tournament." Maybe I'm missing something or else he's fibbing (BIG TIME), but anyway, if they go through with this I'm afraid it might lead to some other schools considering doing the same thing.

From NCAA: Where does the money from March Madness go? The money is used to fund NCAA sports and provide scholarships for college athletes. Distributed to Division I schools to assist with academic programs and services. Distributed to Division I conferences for programs that enhance officiating, compliance, minority opportunities and more.
