Fairfield Men's Lacrosse @stagsmenslax Lᴇᴀᴠᴇ Iᴛ Aʟʟ Oɴ Tʜᴇ Fɪᴇʟᴅ
Dylan Beckwith – Fairfield's most prolific scorer of the 21st century – looks to put his final stamp on the Stags' record books in the league contest. With 209 career points, Beckwith is one tally shying of tying Hall of Famer Spencer Steele '00 for third place on the all-time list. In addition, a hat trick would leave Beckwith with 106 goals, tying J.T. Groarke '99 on fourth-place all-time. On the single-season charts, Beckwith has amassed 23 goals and 24 assists. With a three-point day, he would become only the fourth Stag with multiple 50-point campaigns, and he is one assist short of becoming the third Stag with two 25-assist seasons. Matt Chlastawa has added 25 points for the Stags with 12 goals and 13 assists this spring, with Taylor Strough netting 18 goals to go along with three assists. Strough is in striking distance of his 100th career point, entering the 2021 final with 77 goals and 17 assists as a Stag.

A pitiful record in CAA after considerable resources have been invested in building a supposedly national presence / profile in Men’s Lax.

Stags lose 14-18 after having a 10-6 lead at the half. Stags outscored 12-4 in the second half. Another second half let down.
Stag season ends with no CAA Tournament again and a sad (2-9) CAA(0-8) record. Not acceptable.

Collapse in every 2nd half of every CAA game this year.
Given the resources channeled into this program, not acceptable!!

The team is 2-9, but they have actually outscored their opponents in the first half this year (73-69).
But the second half stats are abysmal. They have been outscored 99-53. Unbelievable turnaround.
If they are not good players, then it's impressive they can play so well in the first half against some solid competition.
But if they are actually decent players, then their second half performances have been awful.
I'm not a lax fan, so I'm not sure which one it is.

Damn, I was looking at live stats and seeing the clock go to 00:00 I thought was the end of game. Only end of first half! Same old thing a defensive collapse in 2nd half. You have to wonder about the coaches ability to get it done when it appears NO progress to correct the same 2nd half deficiency has been made all year long

Stags in CAA (2015-2021) 2021 (2-9)(0-8) 2020 (5-2)(0-0) covid - CAA season cancelled 3/17/2020 2019 (5-9)(0-5) 2018 (4-11)(1-4) 2017 (5-9)(2-3) 2016 (9-8)(4-1) Lost 2-4 to #11Towson in Championship Game 2015 (9-6)(4-1) Lost 8-9 to UMass in Semifinal Game
Since the 2018 season, Stag Men's Lacrosse has won only 1 CAA game (1-17) and has failed to qualify for the CAA Tournament since 2016. Not acceptable and clearly not a national presence in NCAA Division 1 Lacrosse.

I'm not a lax fan, so I'm not sure which one it is.Hopefully the head coach and his staff knows and can fix the problem? No postgame or end of season comments from Coach Baxter in the postgame recap on the Stag website? Nothing even about Dylan Beckwith's record setting career as a Stag? Dylan Beckwith made his final mark on the Fairfield record books with eight points in the last outing of his prolific career. Beckwith's eight-point effort consisted of a hat trick along with five assists. He wraps up his career ranked third all-time at Fairfield with 217 career points, second in assists with 111, and tied for fourth in goals with 106. His 111 helpers are also a new CAA record. Beckwith wrapped up the 2021 campaign as Fairfield's leader in all three scoring categories with 26 goals, 29 assists and 55 total points. He is one of only four Stags with two 55-point seasons to his name and one of only three with a pair of 25-assist seasons. His average of 5.00 points per game this spring is also a new Fairfield single-season record. fairfieldstags.com/news/2021/4/30/mens-lacrosse-late-run-sends-hofstra-past-stags-in-18-14-slugfest.aspx

What amazes me all year long is the 2nd half defensive collapse. Coach Baxter is known as a defensive coach leading Yales defense to a national championship a few years back. Yet he cannot find a solution all year long! What’s that all about? Mercifully the season is over because I believe only the top four teams qualify for the playoffs. The stags at 0 for the season are done!

Year 2 of the Baxter era was definitely a head-scratcher. Just a very imbalanced team with a ton of offensive fire-power and seemingly zero cohesion on the defensive side. I hope they resolve some of these defensive deficiencies on the recruiting trail and transfer portal.
