Totally different from this past week in that the athletic department has put out a notice encouraging anyone who wants to come will be allowed in. In fact they are speculating that the main seating area may be filled to capacity, therefore they are suggesting bringing a lawn chair to sit outside the outfield wall as an alternative. Anyway I'm glad the Stags will have a lot of support for this most important week in which they will attempt to validate everything they have accomplished in this historic season. This should be fun. Go Stags!

Winning the first game is SO SO important. A loss means the Stags would have to win 4 in a row in order to win the tournament. In that regard Canisius (by the numbers) is a very good hitting and fielding team. .296 batting average and .975 fielding % are quite a bit better than the marks of a majority of college teams. Their weak spot appears to be pitching where their team ERA is upper .400s. Anyway if form holds true there might be quite of lot of scoring. Truth is though, good to great pitching usually stops a good offense to some degree, and that's what I'm counting on. Hopefully a little busting out early with the bats similar to what happened early in the season against the Griffs will make us relax a bit, at least more so than with these past two tournament play-in games with Manhattan.

The top-seeded Stags will open up the MAAC Baseball Championship round at home when they take on fourth-seeded Canisius on Wednesday at 11am. The tournament will mark the first-ever conference championships in the 70 year history at Alumni Diamond. The Stags are currently ranked No. 25 in Collegiate Baseball News and No. 28 in the College Baseball Writer's poll. Fairfield also sits as the top-ranked team in New England in the NEIBA poll, holding that position for seven of the eight weeks during the season. It is the first time in program history that the Stags were ranked No. 1 in the NEIBA poll. The Stags earned the right to showcase their talent in front of their home fans by clinching the 2021 MAAC Regular Season Championship and the tournament's top seed, their third in the last five years. The Stags did so with the most dominating regular season in MAAC history, posting a 35-1 record marking the highest winning percentage in NCAA Division I history. Canisius Baseball @griffsbaseball FINAL | Matty Duffy strikes out 10 batters as he throws the #Griffsโ first complete game in the #MAACBaseball Championship Round since 2014! The Stags could not solve Canisius'(20-14) right-hander Matt Duffy as the freshman tossed the first complete game of his career with a personal best 10 strikeouts. The Stags managed just four hits against the right-hander. Fairfield (35-2) almost got closer in the bottom half of the seventh when Matt Venuto lined a pitch over the right field wall which would have been his second homer of the season, but he was called out on appeal for missing home.225 fans at the game in the Stags' 350 seat Alumni Baseball Diamond Box Scorefairfieldstags.com/boxscore.aspx?path=baseball&id=10340

I heard a Stag missed home plate on a HR? That's unbelievable. I have a screen shot of it, but unfortunately, the mssg board is not allowing me to attach it. The camera angle makes it impossible to be certain, but it looks like it was possible that he missed the plate. The ump is right there and looking right at his foot/the plate.

Venuto a real โ knuckle headโ play missing home plate. That should never happen at a college level. He was to busy โ Cadillac-ingโ around the bases after the homer and not paying attention. I was at the game with a buddy of mine who is a HS umpire. He told me in a four man umpire crew as we had today that each umpire is assigned the responsibility to watch a player round the bases after a home run to make sure the player touches the base closest to the umpire. The stags hitting was not there today. The canisus pitcher a frosh could not be touched by the FF hitters. A parent of a FF player told me the cansius pitcher went no more then three innings in any game during the season. So he had the game of his early career today!!!
