My understanding is u win the MAAC tournament or you are out of NCAA tournament. I hope I am wrong on that, if the stags do not go the distance in the MAAC tournament.

Kendall Rogers thinks the Stags are in even if they do not lose the tournament.
I follow college baseball pretty closely and, IMO, if Stags win a couple games in conference tournament, they're good. Things could get dicey if they go 0-2.
I'd put it this way:
0-2 in tourney: 50% of at-large 1-2 in tourney: 75% of at-large 2-2 or better in tourney: They're in

Houston, I hope you are right in ur probability! It just seems to me if the mid majors do not win their conference tournaments they seem to get screwed during the at large selection NCAA tournament process regardless of their record.

Joe Lunardi of his sport with regards to who gets into the tournament maybe? My own sense though is that he is giving them too much of a chance based on the knowledge that the MAAC is not considered a good league at all. And when you add that to the fact that the Stags didn't play any outside competition plus played at home around 75% of the time, that certainly doesn't help their cause at all. So we'll see. But it's not like they can't win 4 in a row considering they won 27 consecutive games earlier this year. But if they do get put out, and certainly if it's tomorrow, I wouldn't have a great deal of hope. Better turn it around and find a way to win these games I think.

Houston I agree with you. I have read the same thing. However, 2 and out would seriously concern me.

Venuto a real “ knuckle head” play missing home plate. That should never happen at a college level. He was to busy “ Cadillac-ing” around the bases after the homer and not paying attention. I was at the game with a buddy of mine who is a HS umpire. He told me in a four man umpire crew as we had today that each umpire is assigned the responsibility to watch a player round the bases after a home run to make sure the player touches the base closest to the umpire. The stags hitting was not there today. The canisus pitcher a frosh could not be touched by the FF hitters. A parent of a FF player told me the cansius pitcher went no more then three innings in any game during the season. So he had the game of his early career today!!! The pitcher (Duffy) actually had a pretty decent ERA going in (about .350), but you're right, he had not pitched many innings at all before (only 18 total on the year). So maybe this was a case of a possible star freshman hurler in the making having his first breakthrough performance at just the right time for him and of course the worst time for the Stags. Whatever, he had his stuff and probably would not have been touched much by most teams at this level today. So credit to him. Now even with his performance, quite frankly the Stags allowed the Griffs to score all of their runs because of misplays in the field despite the fact they were not charged with any errors. Indeed pitcher Mike Sansone deserved a lot better luck based on the fact that the first run came across after a ball was lost in the sun and not fielded by the left fielder that would have ended the inning and the same thing happened in the next inning when a foul pop was not caught behind the plate (admittedly a tough play) which again would have been the third out but the misplay subsequently led to three more runs crossing. So in effect the Stags unfortunately gave this contest away on defense as well of course with the costly non-homer that cost them a run and a chance at a comeback in the bottom of the 7th. I do have a comment on the faux pas of Venuto. I just watched the replay, and yes while he certainly was sloppy and not paying attention as he kind of tried to hop on the plate before greeting his cheering teammates, actually I don't think he was over celebrating or showboating as he ran around the bases. Far from it considering he just basically ran at a normal trot without so much as once waving his arms in extra exhortation at what he had just done. Just an unfortunate time for that to happen and something I'm sure he will never ever do again as his career proceeds. In fact concerning the kid, it was also his drive that was caught at the center field wall earlier in the game that if had gone out would have given the Stags two quick runs in the ballgame. So in effect he was literally within a couple of feet in one case and maybe a half inch in the other of actually producing 3 runs for the Stags. In the end though it just wasn't his (or the team's) day.

Stags 3-0 at the middle of the 4th.
Monmouth with bases loaded and no outs in the third get no runs as the Stags end the inning with another double play.

Ryan: 2-4, 3B, R Becchetti: 1-3, RBI, SF Pagliarini: 2 RBI Single Caruso: 1-2, 2 BB Noviello (W): 8.2 IP, 1 R, 7 H, 7 K, 1 BB Signore (S): 0.1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 K Monmouth would score their only run in the ninth with a two out single, chasing Noviello after 8.2 brilliant innings. John Signore would enter and throw three pitches to strikeout the pinch hitter to end the game. "You just have to compete," Noviello said. "You have to compete for the team, I love these guys and had to do my part. I did that and the guys behind me picked me up and made plays. It was really easy to pitch today with that defense." "He's the perfect person to give the ball to after a tough loss like yesterday," Head Coach Bill Currier said. "He wanted it, he got it, and he did a great job."

Good that Noviello went 8.2 innings. It's important to preserve pitching if you want to claw your way out of the loser's bracket. Also helpful (for pitching purposes) that the MAAC tourney format does not require a team to play >1 game in a day.

Weather is going to be a factor but it could work in Fairfield's favor. They should move up tomorrow's game to 9am to make sure they get the whole game in. If the forecast is right, Championship game 1 will get pushed to Saturday afternoon. Not sure if they will be able to get the if necessary game in right after. What day/time does the auto-bid need to be in by? Sunday doesn't look great.

I was thinking it might actually be in the Stags favor for the games to not be delayed. Fairfield's staff is pretty deep and eventually the bats have to return, right?
I don't know how deep Canisius is, but surely the kid that pitched Wed. wouldn't be able to pitch again on Saturday. Sunday... and he could probably go a few? I'd like to avoid him and beat up the bottom of their staff for two games.
* I'm assuming Canisius is going to win. Rider has had some great chances (trailing 2-0) - but they are making some mind-boggling decisions at the plate.
AND... I was wrong. Rider walks it off with a 4-3 win.
Based on what Canisius was throwing out there at the end... they seemed to be out of good pitchers. Hopefully, Fairfield can take advantage.
