After the most dominant regular season in conference history, the Fairfield University Baseball team was rewarded with plenty of hardware by the MAAC coaches as the Stags earned three major awards and 10 All-MAAC selections. Senior captain Mike Caruso highlighted the trio, being named the MAAC Player of the Year. He was joined by senior classmate left-hander Bryson Cafaro, as he earned the MAAC Relief Pitcher of the Year. Finally, as the leader of the historic season, Head Coach Bill Currier was named the MAAC Coach of the Year. The trio highlighted 10 All-MAAC selections for the Stags, marking the most postseason honors in program history.
"Coach Currier has always been an excellent coach and leader," MAAC Player of the Year Mike Caruso said. "His dedication and willingness to help players develop and become better than the day before is unmatched. Moreover, he brings a winning attitude day in and day out that helps our guys continuously succeed."
"The reward of having five First Team selections and three on the Second Team is historic for the program and special for the recipients who have worked especially hard to improve their talents," MAAC Coach of the Year Bill Currier said. "The coaches feel these awards are just reflections of our unique and record-breaking year we have had so far with so far still to go. Having these players honored makes the entire team proud, yet they would agree it took the entire team to make them as successful as their statistics have shown."
"Michael (Caruso) is our field general behind the plate for not only our pitching staff, but our team as a whole," Coach Currier said. "He has made himself into a complete baseball player as a catcher, baserunner and hitter and is looked up to by his teammates as the most knowledgeable about the game and one of the hardest worker on our team. Our position players look for his lead in the weight room to the field."
"He (Bryson Cafaro) is one of the pitchers who set the example for how to prepare and attack each and every day," Coach Currier said. "From having shoulder issues three years ago and last year's shutdown to fight back and show his outstanding abilities, finally on the MAAC stage. Bryson has been a warrior for our staff wherever needed."
