Who is the starting pitcher for the all important first game of the double elimination?

Interesting. Mike Sansone was #1 the whole season, after the 1st weekend. Trey McLoughlin came into the season as the #1, and after missing the majority of the season, was very impressive against Canisius in the MAAC last week. Could well be McLoughlin (my prediction).

If the Stags are victorious on Friday they will move on to face the winner of Texas and Southern on Saturday at 6pm (CST). If Fairfield falls to the ASU Sun Devils they will move to the elimination bracket on Saturday at 1pm CST.

Lots of weather in the forecast for Austin over the next few days.
Expect some delays! Even more important to manage pitching properly.

Could the makeup of the ASU lineup have something to do with who Currier picks? I believe it's obvious that the Sun Devils are a power hitting team who like to swing for the fences a lot. Need off speed type pitching to counter that IMO. Sansone fits that bill the best I think. He's my guess as to who will get the start.

Nothing in the NY POST about Stag Baseball with a historic at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament or MAAC Champion Rider Baseball in the tournament but an interesting story on NJIT Baseball on how they got in. NJIT baseball ‘living the dream’ of unlikely NCAA Tournament berthThe Highlanders, less than 20 years a Division I program, are the epitome of an underdog story. You can’t find a better David versus Goliath example than Friday night, when NJIT’s baseball team makes its NCAA Tournament debut against Arkansas, the top-seeded team in the country. It will go from near-anonymity to playing on the sport’s biggest stage, in front of over 11,000 people at Baum Walker Stadium, in the double-elimination Fayetteville Regional. There have been more media requests in the past week for NJIT than the past 10 years combined. They closed the year by winning 18 of 22 games and nine in a row. They won their first two games in the America East Tournament, rallying from behind both times to advance to the championship game out of the winner’s bracket. NJIT didn’t have to play again to reach the NCAA Tournament. Heavy rains canceled the title game against Stony Brook, and since NJIT hadn’t lost in the tournament, it was deemed the winner. The NCAA required all conference tournaments to be decided by the end of the day. “For NJIT baseball, it’s the biggest moment that’s ever happened in program history,” said the 40-year-old McClellan, in his third season as the team’s head coach. “It’s a great experience for our kids. It’s a great experience for our university. It’s so much recognition. It’s a big deal.”.... nypost.com/2021/06/03/njit-baseball-living-the-dream-of-ncaa-tournament-berth/NJIT (26-22) at #1 Arkansas (46-10) on Friday, June 4 at 3:00 pmESPN3www.espn.com/watch/player?id=f97704e3-0481-4ab9-ae3f-3819f05c7e9aLive Statswww.ncaa.com/game/5843197

I think there are several more details to that NJIT rain out story.
I believe there were allegations that NJIT intentionally stalled the incomplete game with SB having the bases loaded and nobody out... the SB coach is alleged to have subsequently (maybe the next day?) physically attacked the umpire and an AE official... and the existing game was cancelled very early in the day - when it looked like it could've been (at least) continued later in the evening - before dark - or even played elsewhere (they had until midnight)... possibly because of the previously mentioned incident.
Sour grapes exist because SB won the regular season title and their exclusion from the NCAA tournament is hard to take because of an incomplete conference tournament... and especially if they had continued the in-progress game and won or been leading when cancelled... then both teams would've had 1 loss in the conference tournament and presumably SB would be in the NCAA tournament.
I don't have any firsthand knowledge... just what I've read online.

I think I heard that since it was a one-bid league anyway, they petitioned the NCAA to be allowed to play the game 8:00 or 9:00 Monday AM, and were turned down.

No matter how you slice it, Stony Brook got screwed but the NCAA didn't seem to care.

My only question is why hasn't such a well-known and respected newspaper through their own writer in Zach Braziller dug this info up and written about it? Sounds like it would be the normal introspective writing that the NY Post is known for. Doesn't make sense that nothing was said about this in the article.
